Position Summary :
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized MRI equipment to produce computer-generated diagnostic images which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. They perform procedures at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision.
Duties:
Review orders prior to the day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.
Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure and MR safety while utilizing effective communication.
Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.
Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.
Perform MRI procedures as required based on physician’s order.
Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of MRI and related coils to obtain highest quality images of the anatomy being scanned.
Start I.V., load and operate power injector, and administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
Completion of exam in hospital information system.
Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.
May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.

Applicable imaging departments assume “on call” (MRI Tech I and II) and holiday rotations on a regular basis. Imaging technologists are required to cover all outpatient and hospital locations as necessary and appropriate.
Education :
- Completion of a Radiologic Technology Associate degree program or completion of MRI technology certification program.
Experience :
Minimum one (1) year MRI experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification :
ARRT (MR) certification required or registry eligible (if eligible must obtain MR certification within 24 months of hire or transfer date).
South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) Radiography - certification preferred American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case-by-case basis).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :
Understand and utilize anatomical positioning, physics, MRI safety, critical thinking, time management, effective communication, and proficiency in IV access for contrast media administration.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
