A CT/MRI Scan Technician Assistant promotes a patient/customer driven philosophy, exhibiting positive behavior that supports and enhances customer satisfaction. The CT/MRI Scan Technician Assistant is continually interacting with technical staff, nurses, unit secretaries, patients, visitors and physicians. Communication is performed effectively and professionally at all times. This role requires knowledge of sterile and non-sterile techniques involved in all aspects of the CT/MRI department operations including dispensing of department stock, stocking rooms daily, preparing oral contrast and exam data entry.

Responsibilities:

  • Assures room is setup properly prior to beginning of procedure; cleans room in a timely manner post-procedure.

  • Reports any change in patient's condition or behavior.

  • Assures patient modesty and comfort, assists patients with changing and answers call lights as appropriate.

  • Assures patient is discharged to appropriate destination.

  • Checks proper identification of patient per policy.

  • Creates patient identification bands.

  • Assists in positioning, lifting, and transporting of patients.

  • Prepares oral contrast.

  • Schedules scans and watches queue.

  • Verifies physician exam order, looks at needs of patient and initiates communication and inpatient flow.

  • Respects the confidentiality of patient records.

  • Documents patient history, condition and any other pertinent information on requisition/history sheet and ensures all data is entered into the computer on day of exam, including nonprocedural changes, additional exams, and order revision.

  • Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving transmitting and printing images via PACS, when applicable knowledge in after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork immediately reporting any malfunctions to Help Desk and PACS Administrator.

  • Performs front desk administrative duties.

  • Answers phones and questions; maintains department files.

  • Knows correct downtime procedure.

  • Takes responsibility for personal and patient radiation safety/MRI safety.

  • Follows Radiation/MRI Safety Guidelines. Operates all equipment properly and with care.

  • Immediately reports any malfunctions, necessary adjustments, or repairs; completes necessary documentation.

  • Maintains ethical and professional relationship with all customers, demonstrating cooperative efforts with coworkers and the ability to accept constructive criticism.

  • Adheres to policies and procedures.

  • Assesses patient's readiness and need for learning, considering all aspects of diversity and inclusion.

  • Determines the best methodology to deliver education and receives verbal feedback or return demonstration to validate learning.

  • Provides verbal and/or written instructions for tests/procedures, diagnoses, and discharge when appropriate.

  • Documents what education has been delivered, patient's response and collaboration with any members of the health care team in coordination of care.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with emphasis on communication, computer skills and science courses.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required dependent on site/department.

  • Strongly encouraged at all sites/departments.

Complexity of Work:

  • Computer skills, broad knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy, organized, and good interpersonal skills with all customer groups in a fast-paced environment.

Work Experience:

  • One year in a healthcare related field.

  • Current radiology students would be eligible.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
