Indian Health Service Supervisory Pharmacist - ESEP/MP in Gallup, New Mexico

Summary The primary purpose of this position is to maintain compliance with all applicable pharmacy regulations and supervise pharmacists and technicians working in the Outpatient Pharmacy Services. Provides leadership, direction, organizations, planning, implementation and evaluating all pharmacy programs. Responsibilities Orients, trains, and evaluates competencies and rates performance on the pharmacy technicians. Assures proper program staffing, program quality, productivity an effectiveness and assesses the need to revise or develop programmatic changes to meet patient care needs. Creates, evaluates and implements competencies to comply with required training and standards. Responsible for management of staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, contractors and clerical personnel. Assures Pharmacy prescription service are provided in a safe and effective manner. Reads and interprets prescriptions, computes dosages, weights and measures drug, mixes and compounds drug and chemical and provides patient counseling. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as CMS, DEA, USP as well as applicable state and federal laws. Serves as resources for quality assurance, and performance improvement (QAPI) for the department as well as and medication safety for the facility. Assures proper attention to labeling needs, including specifying directions for use and precautions to assure protection of contents and patient. Promotes learning experiences to improve the performance of all levels of pharmacy personnel. Identifies continuing education needs based on performance of staff and pharmacy goals. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-13: Applicants must have one year of professional pharmacy experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides inpatient/outpatient pharmacy services. Carries out the pharmacy functions of drug selection, IV compounding and dispensing as prescribed, take steps to prevent drug reactions or interactions; ensure correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; prepares and maintains department budget; creates schedules and assigns work for subordinates, evaluates work performance, ensures staff maintain and is current with all Joint Commission standards and credentialing; Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as CMS, DEA, USP (795, 797 and 880) as well as applicable state and federal laws to include Indian Health Service requirements; teach pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below: Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected with set limits of cost and time. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively. Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work. Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
