Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking an Environmental Planner or Landscape Architect to provide technical support on a variety of stream and stormwater projects. This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address a variety of ecosystem restoration design, permitting and construction observation. Our team has established excellent reputation implementing all facets of stream restoration and water quality improvement projects.

Your role is to work with general supervision and direction, independently, and as a team member on stream restoration and water quality improvement construction projects.

You will be responsible for daily construction observation efforts on complex and diverse projects in order to ensure contractor’s operations comply with project plans, specifications, and contract documents.

You will prepare sketches, memos/reports, coordinate with internal and external team members, and assemble data for the project engineer, project manager and end client.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Position will primarily require field work which may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

  • Responsible for daily construction observation efforts on complex and diverse projects to ensure contractor’s operations comply with project plans, specifications, and contract documents.

  • Prepare sketches and assemble data for the project engineer, project manager and team.

  • Act as the Construction Inspector as a representative of the client to ensure quality control and contractor compliance for ecosystem stream restoration and water quality improvement construction projects of varying complexity.

  • Coordinate weekly as-builts surveys.

  • Generate daily reports of conditions found during inspection activities, notifies Project Engineer and Project Manager of problems, and completes documentation necessary to document inspection activities.

  • Inspects installation of construction features and check dimensions.

  • Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, and shop drawings.

  • Prepares documents and assists with file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures.

  • Draft reports and other correspondence documents.

  • Track the processing of incoming and outgoing project documents.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience in stream or stormwater construction methods, materials, standards, and construction terminology.

  • Knowledge of basic geomorphology, stormwater, or related construction principals.

  • The ideal candidate can work with initiative, professionalism, and confidentiality, and is able to work independently, multi-task and adapt to change in a dynamic environment.

  • Proficiently and creatively problem-solve and communicate.

  • Skill in technical writing and communication skills.

  • Working knowledge and ability to use standard of MS Office applications.

  • Ability to be proactive in thought and communication.

  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner, both in writing and in person, with clients, co-workers, and visitors.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and demonstrate team player characteristics.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience, preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Landscape Architecture, Engineering or related field.

Additional certifications are a benefit but not required:

  • VA DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Level.

  • VA DEQ Stormwater Management Inspector Level
