Purpose of the Role
Direct equipment yard personnel and operations to provide additional value and profit to the company. Creatively identify ways to increase profitability while maintaining exceptional customer service.
Functions / Duties
Manage and maintain a diverse fleet of rental construction equipment, vehicles, small tools, expendable materials, and related yard facilities to support project needs. Ensure all machinery is in excellent working condition and compliant with safety
Uphold a commitment to exceptional customer service, consistently delivering a positive experience for construction company superintendents and addressing any concerns or feedback
Forecast equipment needs & budget to maximize efficiencies and targeted growth
Pursue alternative sources of revenue & profit for the company including wholesale/resale opportunities.
Organize and direct personnel administration, performance evaluations, wage reviews and training
Develop and maintain internal department communications, work standards and
Ensure regular inspections and maintenance checks on all equipment to minimize downtime and maximize
Keep accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs, maintaining an organized database for easy access and ROI analysis.
Update equipment rental rate schedules, including competitor analysis, ensuring market competitiveness & company profitability.
Oversee A/R & A/P processes ensuring they are managed effectively and appropriate insurance coverages are in place mitigating risk.
Communicate regularly with the construction company superintendents to provide updates on equipment
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to source equipment and negotiate favorable purchase terms and/or rental
Stay up to date with industry trends, safety regulations, and equipment technology advancements to ensure the company's equipment fleet remains competitive and
Train and supervise a team including equipment maintenance technician(s), warehouse manager, accountant and delivery drivers ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles
Foster a culture of safety first and adherence to company safety/risk
Enhance interdepartmental communication to better achieve the goals of the
Create, maintain & refine equipment yard policies that reflect the company culture and desire for
Review and approve material
Develop proformas for equipment purchases and an annual budget and income Review with SVP and CFO to obtain approval for capital expenditures.
Perform additional assignments per SVP’s
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience
Four-year degree (preferably in business) plus 8 years’ experience with large equipment, equipment yard management, warehousing, or equivalent combinations of training and/or related experience
Rental construction equipment management and experience with general contracting
Advanced knowledge of construction materials, equipment, techniques & requirements
Excellent supervisory and communication skills, ability to motivate & extensive experience with management
Entrepreneurial mindset to identify ways to increase profitability.
Physical Demands
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:
Spends approximately 70% of the time sitting, and 30% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
Occasionally* lifts up to 15 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.
Constantly - Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time
Frequently - Activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time
Occasionally - Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
