Job Description
Kite, a Gilead company, is a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the development of innovative immunotherapies with a goal of providing rapid, long-term durable response and eliminating the burden of chronic care. The company is focused on chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) cell therapies designed to empower the immune system's ability to recognize and kill target cells.
Kite Pharma’s Cell Therapy Research division is seeking a Research Scientist to join the allogeneic CAR T cell team to perform discovery research and contribute to the development of novel CAR T cell therapies in the areas of immunology and inflammation. You will report to a Director and will independently design and perform experiments, organize and analyze results, and communicate and present findings in team and cross-functional meetings.
This is a hands-on laboratory position based in Foster City, CA that involves close collaboration with colleagues and teams across multiple research functions including protein engineering, molecular biology, in vivo pharmacology, research pathology, bioinformatics, and translational medicine. In this role, you will focus on research areas such as (but not limited to) immune system engagement, autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, B cell and T cell biology, and CAR T cell functional enhancements.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and execute experimental approaches across both in vitro and in vivo systems to interrogate and identify biological mechanisms and functions of CAR T cell candidates
Independently and thoroughly research projects of interest, design, implement, and analyze experiments, and present the results to various forums within and beyond the department of Cell Biology
Help identify novel in vivo animal model systems to better reflect the complexity of the disease of interest
Mentor junior team members and supervise the work of a research team including, but not limited to, organizing and prioritizing laboratory work and review of generated experimental results
Document experimental results to enable clinical studies, primary papers or patent applications
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate and 2+ years of scientific experience
OR
Master’s and 6+ years of scientific experience
OR
Bachelor’s and 8+ years of scientific experience
OR
Associate and 10+ years of scientific experience
OR
High School Diploma/GED and 12+ years of scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. with 2+ years of post-graduate experience with a deep background in cellular immunology with an emphasis on autoimmune or inflammatory diseases
Documented record of professional achievement in the form of impactful publications
Well versed in fundamental immunological principles
Skilled in experimental techniques such as T cell-based functional and biochemical assays, multi-color flow cytometry, in vitro cell culture systems, genome editing, and molecular biology
Work effectively with other functions (including Process Development, Translational Medicine, Clinical Development) to ensure alignment cross-functionally
The salary range for this position is: $165,580.00 - $214,280.00. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
