This individual will design, develop, and improve innovative, cost-effective battery products for Industrial Network Power applications. Primary development focus includes electrochemical, component and material design and quality and performance improvement. The individual will support new product development and market launches that support top line revenue growth as well as projects focused on driving non-value-added cost out of the product. This position must be able to interpret internal and external customer specifications and requirements and translate this to a clear and concise product development program. This position requires the ability to coordinate cross functional teams and track and monitor project status. This position must work with Sales, Marketing, Quality, Operations, and other groups to ensure customer expectations are met. The position will also work with other Engineering staff to assure innovative ideas are leveraged into value to the business. The position will have the opportunity to interface with both customers and vendors. The position is located in Fort Smith, AR.
Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty under the guidance of the appropriate supervisor and/or independently. Essential duties include the following: other duties may be assigned.
Develop, complete and document assigned projects through use and application of basic principles, engineering tools and theories.
Work with the Design Engineering and Marketing staffs to implement new products to meet requirements of customers and/or marketing and sales
Initiate and assist in new projects focused on improving the cost and quality of current product lines. This may include new or enhanced design, materials, or process related projects. Coordinate changes with the entire product line in mind.
Prepare Bills of Materials, Drawings, Engineering Change Orders, and Deviations in support of newer or modified products
Issue product specifications to match product construction or in support of other departments
Initiate and monitor sample builds and qualification testing. Collect, document and report build and test data.
Manage top line growth, cost reduction and compliance improvement projects which include coordinating with multidisciplinary groups including Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Procurement
Prepare and present technical information to customers in a professional, organized, and understandable manner; Make oral and written presentations (i.e., monthly status report)
Contribute to product related problem-solving activities
Coordinate activities with other engineers
Assist QA with customer field return analysis/warranty programs and internal product compliance performance testing
Ensure all product development, customer support and launch activity is conducted in accordance with applicable Quality System requirements and Stryten policies and procedures
Qualifications

Education, Experience, Certifications:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other Technical degree required; Chemical Engineer Preferred.
1-3 years experience in product design / development environment. Lead –acid battery experience preferred.
U.S. Citizenship required

Language Skills:
Demonstrate an ability to read and interpret technical documents, specifications, and CAD drawings.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups
Project Management
Planning & Organizing – Ability to generate and execute project plans, develop work breakdown structures, managing schedule, objectives, resources, and budget in a cross functional environment.
Effectively prioritize tasks to meet project schedules – work on multiple tasks simultaneously, both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures such as statistical, algebraic, and trigonometric values, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Demonstrated application of basic concepts of statistics and data analysis
Reasoning Skills:
- Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
