Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Pipefitters, the Pipefitter Mechanic/Welder will be accountable for contributing to the ongoing maintenance in the nickel, cobalt, leach, utilities and fertilizer plants within the Sherritt Metals refinery. This position is based out of our Fort Saskatchewan plant site.

Accountabilities

  • Perform welding tasks using various techniques (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) on a variety of materials, including pipe spools, stainless steel, and alloys

  • Execute pressure welding on components, structures, and systems subjected to high-pressure conditions, such as pressure vessels and pipelines

  • Adhere to strict safety protocols, ensuring the safety of oneself and others during welding operations. Follow safety regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Maintain high standards of quality by inspecting welds for defects and ensuring that they meet project specifications and industry standards

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to understand welding requirements, positions, and joint types

  • Set up, maintain, and operate welding equipment, including selecting appropriate electrodes, wires, gases, and adjusting machine settings

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of welding work, including welding logs, inspection reports, certifications, and compliance with industry standards and project requirements

  • Interprets specifications and WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) data sheets

  • Utilize tools and machinery, including overhead cranes, oxy-acetylene torches

    Qualifications and Skills

  • Pipefitter Trade Certification is required

  • B Pressure Certification

  • Carbon and Stainless Stick and Tig

  • Minimum 5+ years of industrial experience

  • Flexible to work regular/periodic shift work is required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong technical abilities and mechanical aptitude

  • Excellent work ethic, attendance and proven positive work performance
