Fort Meade, MD

SMX is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Command’s IT infrastructure by providing hardware maintenance, hardware management and Tier II service desk support. This is a full-time onsite position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain database systems to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability.

  • Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain database backup and recovery strategies.

  • Identify and resolve performance issues by monitoring system resources and SQL query execution.

  • Optimize database structures, queries, and indexing strategies to improve performance.

  • Implement and enforce database security measures to protect sensitive data.

  • Ensure databases comply with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide 24/7 support for critical database environments, including on-call support.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.

  • Work closely with development teams to design, implement, and optimize database schemas.

  • Collaborate with other IT teams to plan and implement database upgrades and migrations.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.

  • Generate reports on database performance, usage, and other relevant metrics.

  • Conduct training sessions to enhance the skills of the IT team and other stakeholders.

Required Skills, Experience & Education

  • Clearance Requirement: Top Secret/SCI

  • DoD 8140 requirements.

  • Security+ce

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in database administration, with at least 3 years in a senior role.

  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar.

  • Strong understanding of database architecture, design, and data modeling.

  • Experience with database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of backup and recovery best practices, disaster recovery planning, and high availability solutions.

  • Familiarity with cloud database solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Understanding of database security practices and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate

  • AWS Certified Database – Specialty

Desired Skills, Experience

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) – for database security knowledge.

  • ITIL Foundation – for understanding IT service management best practices.

  • PMP or similar project management certification – for managing database projects.
