The MITRE Expeditionary Department is actively searching for a dynamic Systems Engineer to join our team. Our department is at the forefront of delivering innovative concepts, technologies, and methodologies that empower current and future Naval superiority. This role demands inventive problem-solving skills, applying systems of systems engineering and strategic enterprise architecture to enhance future system technology development, requirements development, and sponsor investments.

The candidate will possess operational and domain knowledge of the Marine Corps, complemented by an understanding of tactical architectures, capability and requirements analysis, and techniques. The chosen candidate will collaborate with diverse and geographically separated teams to solve our sponsors' most challenging questions regarding the application of systems engineering principles to critical systems employments.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work with project teams ensuring the development and implementation of strategies, budget management, and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Provide data networking expertise, including the execution, analysis, and reporting of efforts for stakeholders to include investigating and evaluating emerging technologies to enhance network capabilities and performance.

  • Conduct thorough data analysis of systems, evaluating network traffic and overall network configuration.

  • Evaluate endpoint security tools on networks to inform and advise stakeholders on the effect of overall performance on resource-constrained networks.

  • Contribute to MITRE thinking about emergent Naval capabilities, vision, doctrine, and organizational perspectives.

  • Advise sponsors and team members of the operational implications of technologies and technical concepts as applied in real-world operational scenarios.

  • Support technical leadership in systems engineering to shape requirements, technology assessments, and development and implementation strategies for the modernization and fielding of critical Naval capabilities.

  • Serve as a key subject matter expert to, or leader of, dynamic multi-disciplined teams that develop technical solutions through innovation.

  • Lead multi-disciplined MITRE teams in real-world technology transfer efforts to deliver prototype technical solutions to end users.

  • Clearly and concisely communicate highly technical analyses and recommendations to sponsors and partners in written and verbal products.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Interdisciplinary formal education background with at least a Bachelor of Science in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Oceanography, or Mathematics field of study and 5 years of related experience; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with related experience who can immediately contribute at this step

  • Active TS/SCI

  • Strong background in operational employment of communications capabilities across Naval forces (USMC/Navy), new technologies, and process improvement.

  • Current experience in Naval capability definition and implementation, and emergent technology operationalization and adoption.

  • Proven ability to develop and provide technical briefs at various levels of MITRE and sponsor leadership.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree and 6 years of related experience.

  • Experience working technology projects related to Force Design in the context of the Naval Force.

  • Experience with the operational planning process and operational planning for the Naval force in the context of great power competition against a peer competitor.

  • Experience with technology transfer to partner Services.

  • Experience with system development methodologies.

  • Experience with problem-solving, analysis, communication, and detailed documentation.

  • Experience providing solutions for systems, maintaining documentation for system configuration, and performing investment analysis on systems as it relates to priority capability tradeoffs.

  • Experience with software and hardware specification, documentation, and quality assurance.

  • Experience developing and performing key systems engineering processes such as Configuration, Risk, Requirements, or Technical Data Management.

  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
