Cloud Software Engineer
Position Summary
DarkStar Intelligence seeks a Cloud Software Engineer to develop, maintain, and enhance complex Big-Data Cloud systems based on documented requirements. Responsibilities include back-end processing, analyzing, indexing, and providing expertise in Cloud Computing, Hadoop Ecosystem, Java applications, Distributed Computing, Information Retrieval (IR), and Object-Oriented Design. The engineer works independently or as part of a team, reviews and tests software components, resolves software issues, and documents test results. They use appropriate software development and design methodologies, provide input on system design, and consider hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, and the use of COTS/GOTS instead of new development.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse Big-Data Cloud systems based on documented requirements.
Contribute to all stages of back-end processing, analyzing, and indexing.
Provide expertise in Cloud Computing and Hadoop Ecosystem, including implementing Java applications, Distributed Computing, Information Retrieval (IR), and Object-Oriented Design.
Review and test software components for adherence to design requirements and document test results.
Resolve software problem reports efficiently.
Utilize appropriate software development and design methodologies.
Offer specific input on system design, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, and the use of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) products in place of new development.
Perform requirements analysis and synthesis from the system level down to individual software components.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current Top Secret/SCI
Current Fullscope Polygraph
12 years of software engineering experience in programs of similar scope, type, and complexity.
At least 4 years in programs utilizing Big-Data cloud technologies and/or Distributed Computing.
4 years of cloud software engineering experience with similar Big-Data systems (can substitute for a bachelor's degree).
A master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline can substitute for 2 years of experience.
Cloudera Certified Hadoop Developer certification can substitute for 1 year of Cloud experience.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
Technical Skills:
2 years of Cloud and/or Distributed Computing Information Retrieval (IR).
1 year of experience with:
Implementing code that interacts with Cloud Big Table.
Implementing code that interacts with Cloud Distributed File System.
Implementing complex MapReduce analytics.
Implementing code that interacts with Cloud Distributed Coordination Frameworks.
Architecting Cloud Computing solutions.
Debugging problems with Cloud-based Distributed Computing Frameworks.
Managing multi-node Cloud-based installations.
Utility Computing, Network Management, Virtualization (VMWare or VirtualBox), Cloud Computing.
Management and installation of Cloud and Distributed Computing on multiple nodes, including technologies like Python, CFEngine, Bash, Ruby.
Securing Cloud-Based and Distributed applications using techniques such as Firewalls, PKI Certificate, and Server Authentication.
Object-Oriented Design and Programming, Java, Eclipse, MAVEN, RESTful web services.
Familiarity with Cloud and Distributed Computing Technologies, such as YARN, J2EE, MapReduce, Zookeeper, HDFS, HBase, JMS, Concurrent Programming, Multi-Node implementation/installation.
Experience with Cloud and Distributed Computing Information Retrieval technologies like HDFS, HBASE, Apache Lucene, Apache Solr, MongoDB.
Ingesting, parsing, and analyzing disparate data sources and formats (XML, JSON, CSV, Binary Formats, Sequence or Map Files, Avro).
Aspect-Oriented Design and Development.
Debugging and profiling Cloud and Distributed installations, including JVM memory management and profiling Java applications.
UNIX/LINUX, CentOS experience.
Specialized Experience:
Experience with SIGINT collection disciplines (FORNSAT, CABLE, Terrestrial/Microwave, Overhead, ELINT).
Geolocation, emitter identification, and signal applications.
Joint program collection platforms and dataflow architectures; signals characterization analysis.
Experience with configuration management tools such as Subversion, ClearQuest, or Razor.
Desired Qualifications:
Provide in-depth knowledge of Information Retrieval to assist the software development team in designing, developing, and testing Cloud Information Retrieval systems.
Implement complex workflows that manage Cloud MapReduce analytics.
Implement code that interacts with Cloud Distributed Coordination Frameworks.
Oversee one or more software development tasks and ensure work is completed according to the software development process constraints for each project.
Make recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.
Serve as a subject matter expert for Cloud Computing and corresponding technologies, including Hadoop, assisting the software development team in designing, developing, and testing Cloud Computing Systems.
Debug problems with Cloud-based Distributed Computing Frameworks.
Manage multi-node Cloud-based installations.
Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitor their performance.
Select the software development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering.
Recommend new technologies and processes for complex cloud software projects.
Ensure quality control of all developed and modified software.
Architect solutions to complex Cloud Software Engineering problems, such as efficiently processing and retrieving large amounts of data.
Make recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.
