About the Position: This position is with the US Army Sustainment Command, 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Transportation Division located in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. Responsibilities Perform damage inspections when requested by the shipper or the claims office. Ensure inventory is complete and report on damage and missing items is accurate. Inspect crates and material for overseas or domestic shipment and reject those not meeting specifications. Observe, document, and evaluate carrier and contractor performance. Counsel members regarding policies and procedures for the proper preparation of personal property for shipment or storage, including specialized items, to domestic and overseas locations Prepare documentation reporting carrier performance using automated systems. Specialized Experience Statement: One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level which includes 1) packing and unpacking boxes, crates, or shipments in the proper manner in order to prevent damages; 2) assisting with damage inspections; 3) assisting with inspections to ensure materials have been packaged properly; and 4) use various computer programs to type and prepare reports and documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Typing Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Customer Service Transportation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Education Additional Information Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 Months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term Appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. This position may be converted to a permanent, career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
