Description of Work Unit

Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins, a city of 151,000. Located 65 miles north of Denver, the city is nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and alongside the banks of the Cache La Poudre River. The College of Liberal Arts ( CLA ) is a community of arts, humanities, and social science scholars who study the cultural, social, environmental, and historical context in which we live, and examine what it means to be human. Through our research and scholarship, we add to the world’s body of knowledge and artistry. This provides a comprehensive liberal arts education so that students can navigate their individual and communal paths through the human experience. The CLA serves over 6,400 undergraduate students and more than 500 graduate students with over 300 faculty members. The Masters of Sport Management ( MSPMT ) is part of the School of Public Policy and Innovative Leadership within the College of Liberal Arts. The MSPMT program aims to prepare dynamic leaders for tomorrow’s sport industry through scholarship, leadership, diversity, and quality academic and practical experience through a mixture of academic and applied education in areas such as sport governance, policy, marketing, communications and leadership. Drawing from interdisciplinary frameworks, all curriculum of the MSPMT program is geared towards providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become successful sport industry leaders. Graduates of the sport management master’s program will gain practical and theoretical knowledge to pursue a range of mid-high level positions in sport. Students are prepared to pursue leadership roles within sport equipped with critical understandings and tools for effective responsiveness to the shifts in industries of sport. Course instruction is delivered in both online and in-residence formats.

Position Summary

The Masters of Sport Management ( MSM ) program invites applications for temporary, part-time instructors. These positions will be 4.5 or 9-month academic appointments with the potential for summer teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to teach and develop courses in the MSM graduate core and elective curriculum. The primary purpose of these positions is to support the MSM program through teaching and service. These positions will join a collegial group of committed faculty, will teach/co-teach a maximum of three academic courses per semester (with the possibility of teaching during the summer). Salary is dependent on degree type, teaching load, and service expectations.

Required Job Qualifications

  • A masters or terminal Degree in Sport Management, Sport Science, Sport Administration, or related field (such as business, economics, political science, media and communications, sociology, law, education, environmental science);

  • Excellent communication skills (both written/verbal);

  • Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Evidence of 2 or more years of successful teaching in sport management or a related field at the undergraduate or graduate level;

  • Evidence demonstrating professional creative or scholarly accomplishments in the candidate’s area of expertise;

  • Evidence of successful teaching in sport management or related field at the undergraduate or graduate level;

  • Ability to advance MSM’s and the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through relevant programs, goals and activities.

Special Instructions to Applicants

The MSM program offers a rolling admissions process for students to begin courses in August, January, and May. We may begin hiring instructors as early as May 16, 2025, for the summer term and will continue to review the pool for potential applicants as positions become available.
