Summary About the Position: This position is located at the US Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) serving as an Electrician. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 3 years position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. Responsibilities Conduct tests and studies related to new or changed features in electrical systems or equipment Load and test new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment (including motors, lighting, heating, and emergency power systems.) Install, trouble-shoot, repair, maintain, rebuild, modify, and make performance tests on a variety of electrical equipment and controls such as Lightning Protection Systems. Diagnose, test, and align various electronic assemblies, subassemblies, and overall function of systems. Inspect, repair, and maintain lighting and wiring systems, and check for proper operation of electrical equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including routing and connecting wiring to electrical or electronic systems, components, and/or equipment. I select the tools and equipment needed for electrical work. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Ability to Use Electrical Drawings Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Troubleshooting (Electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee makes repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. Subject to electric shock, cuts, and bruises. May be exposed to temperature extremes in test facilities, extremely high noise levels, and exposure to lead, radiation, chemicals, or carcinogens.
