Position Summary

With general guidance and supervision this position will be responsible for executing manual test cases, identifying and reporting software defects, collaborating with developers to resolve issues, and contributing to the overall quality assurance process by thoroughly testing software applications across various platforms, ensuring they meet functional requirements and user experience standards; strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills are required, with a willingness to learn new testing methodologies and tools.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Execute manual pre-defined test cases on various software applications across different platforms (web, mobile, desktop)

  • Thoroughly test features and functionalities according to the provided specifications

  • Basic computer literacy and ability to navigate different software applications

  • Good analytic and problem-solving skills

  • Identify and document software defects using a bug tracking system

  • Collaborate with the QA team to review test plans and strategies

  • Participate in testing phases like functional, system, usability, and regression testing

  • Excellent communication skills to report issues effectively

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently

  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and Grant PUD / IBEW Local 77 Code of Excellence. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.

  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies and procedures.

  • May operate a District Vehicle.

  • Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to:

  • Following all safety policies and procedures.

  • Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions.

  • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and

  • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

Required Qualifications: (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certification)

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Information Technology OR 1 year of relevant technology experience or internship in lieu of degree.

  • A valid driver’s license with no driving restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certification)

  • Experience in a user application/software support role

  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Basic knowledge of testing methodologies

  • Familiarity with any test management tools

  • 1 - 2 years’ experience in software testing or similar role

  • ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Base understanding of personal computer hardware, software, operating systems, and networks.

  • Ability to suggest new ideas and processes; not afraid to push the boundaries of software.

  • Highly motivated and able to work well in both team and solo settings.

  • Good problem-solving skills, judgment, creativity, and analytic capability.

  • Good planning and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with Grant PUD’s computer environment and policies.

  • Knowledge of testing activities (write test cases, execute test case, open bugs, verify bugs, report progress).

  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
