Emerson Controller in ELMIRA, Ontario

If you are an experienced Controller , Emerson-Appleton Group Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Elmira, ON location , reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for leading day-to-day accounting processes, accounting, taxes, banking, audit, cash flow, internal control, legal, and compliance while ensuring financial reporting is accurate, complete, timely, and in compliance with all legal requirements and corporate policy.

As a key member of the facility leadership team the controller is responsible for the entire accounting function. This position will provide leadership to the accounting team and the business and is accountable for continuous improvement activities that support the direction of the company.

IIN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • Lead the finance team, ensuring adherence to Company guidelines and procedures. Manage and follow local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings ensuring that all activities are conducted per General Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Ensure strong governance and control of financial and tax activities. Ensuring local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings are met.

  • Handle Billing, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payables, Cost Accounting, Inventory accounting and Revenue Recognition, acting with a clear sense of ownership. Advises accounting with policy, procedures & systems vital for proper accounting practices, controls & services.

  • Prepare periodic financial reports, ensure all financial/management reports are accurate and timely and analyze financial documents and operating results in both Canadian and US dollars. Interprets organization's operating results & communicates results to management.

  • Ensure timely submission of statutory reports and corporate taxes per local regulations and corporate deadline. Support and perform month-end, quarter-end and year-end close process.

  • Establish & administrate the organization's annual budget, monthly POR and other financial goals, ensuring organizational financial stability.

  • Lead the product costing process for the plant; complete the annual standard cost build, reviewing data that impacts material purchase costs, as well as developing labor and burden rates to support full absorption costing model based on expected forecasts.

  • Recognize patterns in the spending, headcount, profitability, pricing, revenue, foreign exchange, inventory, accounts receivables and payment terms, among some of the key financial metrics, for the entity and recommend resolutions to any complicated situations.

  • Analyze results and provide comparisons to forecasted and expected results.

  • Develop, investigate, and interpret key performance measurements and accounting information to evaluate financial and operating results and recommend areas of opportunity for efficiency and cost savings. Identify accounting and financial issues and suggest timely solutions.

  • Identify, isolate, and develop a plan for cost containment in cooperation with other department managers.

  • Lead the departmental budget process, providing forecasts and variance analysis

  • Prepare management reports to support decision making. Establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results.

  • Provide support to the plant operations team in producing reports and models for analysis of manufactured goods.

  • Review and approve Appropriate Request (AR), Inventory adjustments, streamline the accounting functions and operations.

  • Protect the assets of the company via involvement in the development of internal controls, the taking of physical inventories, and involvement in other related financial functions.

  • Coordinate with external auditor, intercompany branches for statutory reports and tax consolidation and implement recommend improvements. Maintain good relationships with local banks, tax Authority, auditors, custom and other government office.

  • Develop a strong accounting team that supports company growth. Ensure appropriate structure that can support the current & future business needs. Work on a succession plan and develop high potential staff to meet organizations business needs.

  • Safeguard Trade Compliance rules, other legal regulations and/or Corporate Policies as required.

You analyze multiple and diverse sources of information to define problems accurately before moving to solutions. You are completely on top of what is going on and know where things stand. You model high standards of honesty and integrity, expressing yourself in a credible and open manner.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • BA/BS/master’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration.

  • Completed CPA Designation required.

  • 5+ years recent experience as Finance Manager/Controller

  • 7+ years overall working experience in finance/accounting.

  • 5+ years of confirmed experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Exceptional experience with preparing balance sheets, P&L's, and other financial documents to complete required financial analysis.

  • Proficient with ERP systems & Microsoft suite, financial reporting system. Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and working knowledge of database management to retrieve and analyze data efficiently.

  • Excellent verbal/written communications and presentation skills and the ability to comfortably communicate financial information to senior levels in the organization.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills and highly proficient in inventory control, supply chain, and forecasting.

  • Must have experience with a multi-product manufacturing standard product costing system, driven by multi-product bills of material.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong leadership qualities, business insight, critical thinking, and analytical/technical skills combined with superior time management, attention to detail and prioritization skills.

  • Confirmed project management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and handle exciting priorities and fluctuating workloads.

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada – sponsorship will not be provided for this position .

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate effectively to people both internally and externally.

  • Experience in Oracle ERP preferred
