Nexstar Media Group Reporter, MultiMedia Journalist in East Providence, Rhode Island

WPRI in Providence, RI is searching for a reporter with the right combination of sound news judgment, a passion for storytelling and a solid background in news reporting. The ideal candidate must be able to handle stories on all topics, especially breaking news; excel at live coverage and must generate story ideas. The right candidate must be a credible and experienced news reporter with strong editorial news judgment and a proven record of collaboration and positive teamwork.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Report on daily news assignments and contribute to daily enterprise content.

• Collaborate with producers, management, digital team, photographers, and assignment desk to deliver top quality news reports.

• Reporter may be assigned to work with a photographer or to shoot and edit their own stories.

• Establish and maintain sources in the community, government, and law enforcement.

• Support positive newsroom culture, collaborate and foster an environment of integrity.

• Participate in community and promotional events.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:

• Minimum two years of on-air experience.

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

• Ability to operate camera and audio equipment to capture footage of events and interviews.

• Ability to edit video for broadcast and digital platforms.

• Strong journalistic background, superior on-air presence, and excellent writing skills.

• Ability to handle constructive criticism and perform under pressure.

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.

• Positive collaboration with colleagues and effective interaction with the public.

• Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers, and issues.

• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Candidates must have a solid resume reel showcasing breaking news live reporting and well thought out packages.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

As a Reporter you must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. You must be able to lift and operate camera equipment, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face to face discussions with individuals or groups, make decision without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work in close proximity to others. Must be able to operate equipment weighing up to 25lbs. and have a valid driver’s license.
