Kitsap County Bailiff-On-Call in East Port Orchard, Washington

*Kitsap County is hiring for on-call Bailiffs for jury trials! *

*Our ideal candidates are looking for a position that provides flexibility, while still serving the citizens and Kitsap County Courts with integrity and professionalism. *

This on-call position is responsible for assisting in the conduct of court business and coordinating the movement of individual jurors. This position will have substantial contact with all parties in the Criminal Justice system, including defendants, judges, lawyers, corrections staff and the public.

The Kitsap County District Court is a court of limited jurisdiction and has jurisdiction over misdemeanors and gross misdemeanor crimes. These crimes carry a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail and/or a $5,000 fine. The most common criminal charges include criminal traffic charges such as Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driving with a Suspended License.  Other misdemeanor charges of Assault, Theft, and Misdemeanor Domestic Violence charges are filed in District Court.  Most Traffic offenses (infractions) such as speeding, vehicle registration (tabs) charges and equipment violations are also heard in District Court.  

**This is a temporary, on-call position classification used by Kitsap County to assist with court business. Positions in the classification are "relief/on-call" temporary positions and are covered by requirements of the Kitsap County Extra Help Policy.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

[ REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:]{.underline}

  • Two years' experience working with the public in customer service, office environment, legal or in the court environment is required.

[PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:]{.underline}

  • Previous experience serving as a trial juror
  • Previous law enforcement experience
  • Six months experience working in courts or courtroom processes
  • Previous experience in public speaking or making presentations
