Student Support Coordinator

Position Summary

This position's primary role will be to support and manage assigned Admissions, Student Life, and Inclusivity & CVM programming, student affairs projects, and initiatives. The successful applicant will have the ability to take on multiple tasks in a dynamic environment and complete them efficiently, accurately, and independently. The selected candidate will be expected to provide exceptional service to individuals through clear and effective verbal and written communication.

  • This position will work in collaboration with the ASI team to support Admissions, Student Life, and Inclusivity programs, activities, and initiatives;

  • Provide primary support for student clubs, corporate representatives; and manage CampusGroups (Database designed to manage collegiate Registered Student Organizations).

  • Actively assist in coordinating events like the Transition and White Coat Ceremonies, Senior Celebration, Commencement, Orientation, Career Fair, and various Wellness Events.

  • Provide administrative support including creating meetings, Qualtrics surveys, disseminating information to faculty, staff and students, and record keeping;

  • Interact with University personnel, students, external agencies and the public, verify information and make judgments in order to ensure that records and resultant actions are correct;

  • Collect and report on events and projects data compiled after each event and project;

  • Draft, edit, and send correspondence; write concisely and grammatically correct; respond clearly and efficiently to emails; take notes and send follow-up requests/summaries as needed;

  • Completes project work independently to facilitate the functioning of the department; and other duties assigned as needed by the ASI unit.

This work is in-person, Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. On occasion there may be work that occurs during the evenings and on weekends. Additionally, provides phone coverage backup in the office when necessary.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical school or related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in customer service or in performing tasks related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Four-year degree and experience working in student affairs, Higher Education, or related field. Experience in working with the MSU Enterprise Business System (EBS); experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; experience with using Outlook and other scheduling tools; demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, details, and prioritize work to meet deadlines; demonstrated excellence in communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and ability to interact with varied constituents in a timely, courteous, and professional manner; demonstrates a work orientation that includes problem solving, teamwork and adaptability to change, focus on service, and continuous learning for self-improvement.

Experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation and webpage software; typing and filing; maintaining accounting ledgers; may require knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical knowledge or training related to the field of employment;
