COUNTY OF VILAS WIC Director/Nutrition Coordinator in EAGLE RIVER, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The purpose of this position is to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. Additionally, this position will provide nutrition education for the WIC program by determining nutrition risk, setting goals for behavior change pertaining to nutrition and breastfeeding, and developing and distributing nutrition educational materials. Essential Skills: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 1. Provides nutrition and lactation expertise and leadership and assures the delivery of related services are evidence-based and/or best practices and build the scientific evidence for public health. 2. Ensures compliance with relevant nutrition practice guidelines/state WIC policies, state contracts, and Federal and State laws and regulations. 3. Manages response to public complaints and inquiries related to the Women, Infants, and Children Program, other nutrition-related programs, and lactation programs and services. 4. Participate in the development/revision of agency policies and procedures to support WIC and nutrition goals pertinent to the WIC population. 5. Annually perform chart reviews and observations of all WIC staff. 6. Evaluates program nutrition education needs based on ROSIE reports/WIC data and determines and maintains annual nutrition education plans. 7. Approves and documents participant need for special formulas and food packages according to physician\'s orders. 8. Serve as preceptor for dietetic interns. Provides orientation to the WIC program for students in other health care disciplines. 9. Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates annual nutrition performance objectives. 10. Determines participants\' WIC eligibility based on nutrition risk. Utilizing motivational interviewing (MI) and VENA philosophy, determine WIC participant nutrition and health needs. Completes and records physical assessment of client height, weight, hemoglobin and lead. Interprets growth charts and calculates gestation periods. 11. Educates on nutrition and breastfeeding using MI and Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) philosophy, to set behavior change goals. Educating may include explaining WIC program services and goals, use of benefits, and participant rights and responsibilities. Referrals made to appropriate health care providers and other services. 12. Charts results of health and diet screening, education and care plans in the WIC Real-time Online Statewide Information Environment (ROSIE). 13. Provides follow-up appointments for high-risk participants. 14. Participates in quality improvement processes to ensure efficient and effective delivery of related programs and services. 15. Develops relevant objectives for the agency Performance Management Plan and works with program staff to address deficiencies in outcomes. 16. Communicate and collaborate with key community partners to advocate assessment and participation in WIC nutrition services. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Previous WIC program experience preferred. Adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, such as those concerning exposure to bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, airborne pathogens or exposure to other hazards. Assists with development of program budgets; monitors budget compliance and recommends modification when needed. Complete required breastfeeding training within twelve (12) months of hire; participate in ongoing training to maintain Breastfeeding Coordinator. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by pursuing education, participating in professional committees and work groups and contributing to a work environment where continual improvements in practice are pursued. Attends regular staff meetings, training, and other meetings as assigned. Perf rms public health emergency response duties as assigned. Participates as part of the Incident Command Structure in planning, training, and exercising for emergencies. Works to support the mission of the department and adheres to the core values as described in the most current agency strategic plan. Responsible to know and practice the Safety Policies of the County.
