Corporate Human Resources Senior HR Business Partner in Durham, North Carolina

Location: United States, Durham (Hybrid Based)

Pearson is looking for a dynamic HR Business Partner (HRBP) ready to join our fantastic global HR team supporting our Digital & Technology business. The role will be responsible for cultivating strong relationships with global leaders to support and anticipate needs along with providing varied HRBP support across assigned leaders to drive employee engagement and business performance.

As a true partner to the business, the successful candidate will have experience in employee relations and coaching managers to support the best outcomes. Everything we do is with a focus on our business’ goals. As part of a global business, you will have an opportunity to work with the broader HR organization to ensure effective alignment with our HR service delivery.

The role will work in partnership with the HR teams (CoEs, Talent Acquisition and HR Ops) to build organizational alignment and capability through the delivery of targeted people programs and initiatives that empowers top line growth for Pearson.

Key responsibilities include:

Talent Management

  • Counsel with managers on individuals’ performance

  • Support the talent review process and partner with the business to identify key talent and succession plans

  • Consult on and execute against engagement action plans

  • Support the business embedding diversity, equity and inclusion across the organization

  • Consult with the business on employee learning needs/solutions

  • Consult with managers on changes to jobs (organizational design, promotions, transfers, etc.)

Employee Relations & Compliance:

  • Consult with staff and managers regarding employee relations issues and initiate action plans to address and resolve issues.   (Escalating complex where appropriate to the Director, HRBP)

  • Advise staff and managers on matters regarding conflict resolution, relationship building, and effective communication.  

  • Coordinate with legal counsel regarding employment-related legal matters and policies.  

  • Facilitate performance assessment program including dissemination of communications, coordinating with training team on staff and manager trainings and resources,  

  • Assist with and advise managers on disciplinary action procedures, coaching, counseling, and documentation.  

  • Monitor trends in recruitment, onboarding & exits within the organization.   

  • Ensure compliance to meet all employment regulations and laws.  

Reward

  • Guide managers on Reward strategy, the definition of reward plans and benchmarking

  • Work with the business to identify eligible employees and allocate incentive awards

  • Consult with the business to ensure compliance locally from a reward perspective

Talent Acquisition

  • Consult with talent partners on sourcing approach for candidates and approval of job requisitions

  • Consult on job offers to candidates (where appropriate)

Other duties and special project work as assigned.

About you

The ideal candidate would be experienced in working with high performing Technology teams and be confident, creative, yet commercial in their thinking and actions.

In addition, you will be/have:

  • 5+ years of HRBP/Generalist experience from working within medium to large matrixed organizations

  • A global mindset and passion for learning about the world and building high-performance teams

  • A core of understanding of people technology challenges that organizations are experiencing

  • Data centric – you will have used effective data to drive insights into the people plan and drive subsequent actions

  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines: compensation practices, organizational design, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws

  • Partnered and coached managers in driving a successful people agenda (through proven results)

  • A track record of excellent internal as well as external stakeholder management at all levels.

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and sensitive information in a persuasive, structured and clear way

  • Must be detail oriented, data driven and able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

This position is located in Durham, NC., with core work hours in the Eastern time zone and at times early AM or PM due to supporting a global client group. Expectation that individual will primarily be in the office at a minimum on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
