Job Summary

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank delivers meals to thousands of children in Allegheny County through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). By combining our community-based expertise with child nutrition program expertise, we listen to our community partner's needs and respond by connecting organizations, sharing information and resources, problem solving food access challenges, and equipping our partners to have increased capacity for feeding children.

The Child Nutrition Summer Food Site Supervisor supports the service of meals to children in Duquesne. The Site Supervisor's primary responsibility is to serve breakfast and/or lunch to children age 18 and younger in accordance with all USDA, PDE and Food Bank requirements. The Site Supervisor will also work to ensure children age 18 and younger, and their caregivers, are aware of the availability, open eligibility, and benefits of the SFSP. This person works as a member of a team to achieve Child Nutrition goals and to fulfill the mission of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, to feed people in need and mobilize our community to eliminate hunger.

Requirements

 

 * Key Responsibilities: *

  • Attend all Program and Food Safety training sessions
  • Receive prepared food delivered daily in accordance with all food safety regulations and check quantity and quality of food received
  •  Clean the site before and after serving meals
  •  Heat food when required and serve meals in an organized manner during approved serving times to all children age 18 and younger
  • Count meals served at point of service, using the Food Bank's electronic meal counting system (training will be provided)
  • Maintain and submit all program records in a timely manner
  •  Review and adjust food orders as needed to ensure every child is served while avoiding food waste
  •  Communicate with the Youth Cafe team regarding weekly orders, supplies, food quality concerns, delivery issues and other needs
  • Organize site activities that will increase participation and engagement of children during and between meal service times
  • Support outreach efforts to increase program participation (e.g. distributing flyers in local neighborhood, helping with social media, collecting feedback from participants and their parents/caregivers)
  • Collaborate with the Child Nutrition Outreach team for marketing and activity support as needed
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as determined by the Child Nutrition Programs Supervisor

Qualifications:

  •  Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability and willingness to respectfully work with diverse populations, including the ability to engage with and build trust among people living in under-resourced communities
  • Experience and interest in working with children
  • Positive attitude
  • High quality customer service skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  •  Ability and willingness to learn new technology
  • Able to lift 25 pounds without assistance
  •  Must be willing to work in person, up to four days per week, 4-5 hours per day, with no more than five personal days off (unpaid). Due to demands of start-up, personal days off cannot be used without prior approval during the period of June 10-July 5.
