Minnesota Power is currently seeking an Engineer II – Electrical to join its Engineering Services team. This role will provide project management support for capital projects including transmission and distribution lines and substations, thermal and renewable generation facilities, and emerging technologies. When you join our Engineering Services team, you will help maintain and enhance infrastructure, ensuring reliable service to customers and supporting the community’s needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role is responsible for project management of energy related projects across Minnesota Power/ALLETE from inception through delivery as part of our Engineering Services team.

  • Lead project teams and contribute to scope, schedule, and budget development and administrative work relating to projects and assignments.

  • Successfully deliver projects within scope, schedule and budget constraints.

  • Ensure timely procurement of materials and services to support project delivery timelines.

  • Report on project status keeping stakeholders updated on schedule, budget and risks.

  • Provide project management oversight to execute large and small scale engineering projects related to thermal and renewable generation facilities, substations, lines, enterprise projects, facilities and emerging technologies; may perform project engineering, maintenance and project work from design to implementation in accordance with Minnesota Power standards.

  • Work with construction managers and other stakeholders to develop and implement project execution strategies.

  • Manage project resources to include engineering, budgeting, safety, environmental and permitting, security and construction.

  • This position will work with teams including engineering consultants, contractors, and company employees to implement projects.

  • Lead projects from inception through project close out and ensuring all required documentation is developed and archived.

  • Actively engage in all project phases from conceptualization through construction and commissioning with time spent both in office and in the field.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET AEC accredited program, or equivalent

  • Preferred focus in power systems

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Four years or more related engineering experience* OR

  • Two years of related experience* PLUS certification as an Engineer in Training

  • Project and construction management experience is strongly preferred.

    *A Master’s degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position will report regularly, in person, to the Duluth, MN office.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • The position requires travel to different Minnesota Power/ALLETE facilities and project sites.

  • After hours and out of town travel is occasionally required.

  • Requires high level of interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.

  • Preferred candidate is a self-starter that can work both independently and in a team-based project environments.

  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

    BENEFITS:

  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $80,000 – $100,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
