DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Economic Development department's mission is to foster an environment conducive to successful start-ups and the transition of products and services to the market. This department is responsible for the recruitment, relocation, and expansion of start-up, early stage, and established biotech companies.
The Economic Development department focuses its work externally on government affairs (local, regional, and national), economic affairs, community relations, and special events that will promote growth of the synergistic cluster of biotechnology talent on the HudsonAlpha Biotech Campus and in North Alabama.
JOB SUMMARY
The Business Recruitment Specialist (BRS) will play a vital role in attracting and retaining technology-focused businesses to drive regional economic growth. This position involves identifying potential business prospects, cultivating strong relationships, and promoting the Wiregrass Innovation Center as an ideal location for technology-driven enterprises. The BRS will collaborate with the HudsonAlpha Wiregrass leadership team, local stakeholders, government agencies, and industry leaders to create and implement strategies that encourage investment and innovation in the Wiregrass region.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Economic Development Recruitment Specialist will report to the Economic Development Manager of HudsonAlpha Wiregrass
and work closely with the Director of HudsonAlpha Wiregrass to advance the work of this mission area and the Institute as a whole.
This position is located in Dothan, Alabama as part of HudsonAlpha Wiregrass.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Market Research and Analysis:
- Conduct research on technology trends, emerging markets, and business needs to identify potential recruitment opportunities.
- Analyze data on workforce availability, industry clusters, and infrastructure to support business recruitment strategies.
- Maintain a database of leads, contacts, and interactions.
Business Recruitment:
- Identify and engage with technology-focused companies and startups considering relocation or expansion with need of office and wet lab space.
- Promote the region's unique advantages, including infrastructure, workforce, and incentives, to prospective businesses.
- Coordinate and facilitate site visits, tours, and meetings with prospective businesses.
Relationship Building:
- Develop strong, lasting relationships with technology industry leaders, site selectors, and decision-makers.
- Serve as a liaison between prospective businesses and local stakeholders, including government agencies and economic development organizations.
- Cultivate connecti ns with industry associations, venture capitalists, and technology incubators to generate leads.
Collaboration and Outreach:
Represent HudsonAlpha Wiregrass and the region at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to promote its capabilities.
Coordinate with Hudsonalpha's communication team to develop tailored promotional materials for targeted recruitment campaigns.
