BorgWarner Inc. 2nd Shift Team Leader in Dixon, Illinois

JOB PURPOSE:

Team Leader is a mission critical position and the first line of defense for identifying and responding to anything outside of standards. They own the assigned area of operation with a mindset of safety first, quality always, they will drive continuous improvement, problem solve, and coach.

Hourly 2nd shift Team Leader:

Core Hours are Monday to Friday 3:15 pm to 11:30 pm

Overtime hours may be Mandatory/Voluntary during the weekdays and Saturday's. OT is highly likely.

They own the assigned area of operation with a mindset of safety first, quality always, they will drive continuous improvement, problem solve, and coach.RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Safety

Complete monthly safety training

Open Gensuite issues

Ensure stretching is completed before each shift

Employee Relations Employee Management

Assure personnel follow procedures

Approve associate vacations, based on department needs, using a signed TOP hardcopy (TOP form KRONOS entry is PLL responsibility)

Verbal warnings from TL, written warnings from PLL

Support employee corrective action implementation

New Hire Orientation

Conduct new team member tour and introduction to production floor

Operator Certification

Ensure operator badge is current and posted in the appropriate location

Coach operators in all operations per standard work

Maintain operator certification records and training progression plans

Support temporary employee headcount planning

Quality Assurance

Ensure inventory count in DMR is correct per SAP (QSP-13)

Write quality DMR’s

Create and update Quality Alerts

Conduct one LPA per week

Operational Efficiency

Ensure throughput meets shift target

Manage problem solving process to ensure FTT meets shift targets

Develop Standardized Work

Ensure standardized work is being followed (Standard Work Conversations)

Continuously improve standardized work Ensure 5S operator readiness is being followed

Create and update 5S operator readiness forms

Run stations when operators are not available

Assure production sheets and check sheets are completed correctly Coordinate sorts

Coordinate line changeovers

Materials Management

Develop production build plan

Coordinate re-packing activities

Continuous Improvement

Attend Safety, Quality and Continuous Improvement meetings

Ensure “day by the hour” board updated in department

Schedule operator rotation

Enter shift numbers into production database

Enter information into FTT tracking

Enter scrap data into scrap log and SAP

Complete “End of Shift” report

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Absenteeism meets plant standards

  • No performance or safety violations

  • Fork truck license preferred

  • Must be available to work overtime

  • Willingness to complete required training and upgrade personal skill levels

    KEY JOB SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrated ability to setup, operate, and train others on all equipment & processes

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and the ability to train others in Control Plan activities, Standardized Work documents and process monitoring.

  • Basic math skills (calculate and use statistical data)

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Employee counseling

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

  • Ability to facilitate and actively participate in teams.

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety systems and procedures

  • PC literacy (Microsoft basics, ERP understanding)

  • Systemic & Root Cause Problem solving and ability to train others

  • Manufacturing experience preferred

  • Willingness to attain license in the material management equipment as needed in the department
