Catholic Health Initiatives Director Surgical Services in Dickinson, North Dakota

Overview

CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson part of CommonSpirit Heath a national nonprofit health system based in Englewood Colorado. The faith-based system operates in 18 states and includes 103 hospitals. Additional services offered within the system are: long-term care assisted and residential living communities community health services organizations home health agencies and numerous outpatient facilities.

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for driving patient satisfaction, quality, and safety metrics as well as employee performance, competency, and engagement. This position supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson.

Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Surgical Services is responsible for planning, organizing and directing of the operations and staff (clinical and non-clinical) of the Surgical Services Department (Inpatient Operating Room, Outpatient Surgical Services, Anesthesia, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Central Sterile, Endoscopy, OB, and Infusion Center); assists the Chief Finance Officer by monitoring and analyzing patient payor mix; maintains effective business relationships which promote the services of the division.

The Director is also responsible for the design, administration, and evaluation of professional nursing services within the perioperative arena in accordance with the framework established by the state nurse practice act, the perioperative scope of practice, and the standards of care in the organization in which they work.

Master's Degree strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  1. Drives patient satisfaction, quality, and safety metrics through visionary leadership, incident review, policies and procedures, training, ongoing evaluation, and performance improvement programs

  2. Bridges the gap between management and staff by serving as a liaison, communicating company direction and vision with employees and sharing employee feedback with senior leadership

  3. Drives employee performance through effective staff development, accountability, conflict resolution, mentoring, communication, performance management, total rewards, and team-building

  4. Develops and maintains tools and resources to support employee competency within the department including departmental orientation, competency checklists, job aides, job descriptions, policies, procedures, and communication tools

  5. Strives for continuous improvement in the department by identifying issues, conducting root cause analyses, implementing solutions, evaluating efficacy and efficiency initiatives within the surgical arena in accordance with national averages and adapting to continually improve.

  6. Envisions, recommends, evaluates, and deploys new programs, services, certifications, or awards that advance the offerings of the department or organization as a whole, meet a community need, or otherwise better serve the organization and its stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in related discipline, Masters preferred

Minimum of 1 to 2 years of leadership experience of surgical services line

Required Licensure and Certifications

Candidates must have an RN license that allows them to practice in the state of North Dakota (compact license or license issued by the ND Board of Nursing)

BLS

PALS (3 months)

ACLS (3 months)

CNOR (24 months)

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

Candidates must be proficient with computers, computer applications used in the healthcare setting, and Google Suite.

Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.

Pay Range

$37.05 - $53.72 /hour
