Description

Led by the Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship (Detroit ACE), the City has embarked on the Arts Alley Initiative to address deficiencies long present in the city’s neighborhoods made urgent in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic: lack of resident access to safe green spaces; inadequate maintenance of infrastructure exacerbating blight and flooding; and a dearth of opportunities and support for the creative workforce. Specifically, the Arts Alley Initiative will use ARPA funds to transform nine residential and commercial alleys, overhauling them with new surfacing, landscaping, stormwater management strategies and pedestrian amenities, while partnering with local artists and residents to imbue these improvements with a sense of history, beauty, and imagination.

The Community Engagement and Art Installations Manager will play an important role in contributing to the Arts Alley Initiative within the Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship. They will handle stakeholder communications during the construction process, informing each alley community of project updates and addressing stakeholder questions and concerns. They will also handle contract administration and community engagement for dozens of arts installations in the alleys.

Examples of Duties

  • Manages all community engagement and stakeholder communications for the Arts Alley Initiative.

  • Assists stakeholders in understanding project scope and timeline, while responding to questions and concerns.

  • Coordinates community meetings and events.

  • Coordinates with Arts Alley Initiative Project Manager to update arts installations scope, budget and timeline.

  • Manages stakeholder consent process for fencing, murals, and other installations.

  • Tracks and reports project milestones and status reports to internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Manages third-party contracts with clients, vendors, and suppliers.

  • Oversees project budget and processes invoices according to ARPA requirements.

  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal interdepartmental teams and external partners, including vendors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.

  • Analyzes data from a variety of sources and updates spreadsheets and smartsheets.

  • Tracks and reports outputs for ARPA compliance.

  • Assists with the implementation of organizational goals, initiatives and plans.

  • Develops and implements initiatives to improve work processes.

  • Drives fact-based decision making within the team.

  • Provides recommendations for improving results, operational efficiencies, and experiences through in-depth analysis.

  • Manages art installations project development and execution from inception to closure.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a college or university with major course work in landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, construction administration, or a related field.

Experience

• At least two (2) years’ experience in professional engineering, municipal government, and/or related environments.

• At least one (1) year’’s experience in construction project management, including capital improvement, art installation, and/or public space activation.

• Familiarity with Detroit’s neighborhoods and history.

• Proficiency with word processing, Excel spreadsheet, and project management software.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.

The City of Detroit is pleased to continue to provide a medical plan option to our Administrative Special Services Employees for the 2020 plan year. This plan is provided by Blue Care Network of Michigan and utilizes their PCP Focus Network. This plan provides you with the opportunity to receive an enhanced level of benefits and pay less out of your paycheck for your medical plan. There are two important requirements that you should consider and understand if you should decide to enroll in this plan. You will have to choose a primary care physician that serves within the PCP Focus network. This primary care physician coordinates your care. The network includes over 22,000 Primary Care Physicians. There are also Wellness Requirements that you (the subscriber) must meet in order to remain in the enhanced level of benefit.

Administrative Special Services Staff (Exempt) are eligible for the following benefits:

  • CURRENT SICK LEAVE – Granted (3) months of continuous service. (1) day per month, not to exceed (12) days per year.

  • VACATION – Granted (1) day per pay period, not to exceed 20 days per fiscal year

  • PAID HOLIDAYS – Granted if paid for 600 straight time hours in the (12) months prior to the holiday

  • MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT - Granted on same basis as regular employees.

  • WORKERS COMPENSATION – Covered by applicable laws.

  • UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION - Covered by applicable laws.

  • HOSPITALIZATION – You are eligible to purchase healthcare benefits for yourself and your dependents under a group rate. You will be responsible for the full premium, no employer contribution will be applied. Please review the Health Care Plan Options Booklet for more detailed information.

  • This position is not eligible for the City Pension Plan, dental, vision, optical, death, life, disability, funeral, reserve sick or jury duty.

Administrative Special Services Staff (Non-Exempt) are eligible for the following benefits:
