Animal Rescue League of Iowa Benefits and Payroll Specialist in Des Moines, Iowa
Title: Benefits & Payroll Specialist - Full Time
FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Human Resources
Responsibilities:
Administer ARL leave programs, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), long-term disability, workers’ compensation leaves, and personal leaves of absence.
Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on leave options and company policies.
Review and process leave requests, track usage, and communicate with employees and supervisors regarding leave statuses.
Maintain accurate records of leave balances and ensure proper pay adjustments take place as part of payroll.
Review timecards to ensure accuracy, resolving discrepancies, as needed.
Manage the end-to-end payroll process, including processing bi-weekly payroll, reconciliation, and ensuring payroll deadlines are met.
Administer the workers’ compensation program, including claims reporting, case management, and tracking of employee status while acting as a liaison between employees, third-party administrators, and supervisors, when appropriate.
Assist in return-to-work programs and accommodations process.
Oversee the administration of employee benefit programs and serve as the main point of contact for employees regarding benefits.
Conduct benefit orientations in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition Specialist and provide ongoing education to employees on their benefit options.
Reconcile benefit premiums with bi-weekly payrolls.
Manage open enrollment periods, including communication, education, and assisting with the enrollment process.
Lead the Safety Committee and administer the injury reporting process.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulations such as ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and other federal and state laws.
Assist with various Human Resources projects, as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a similar field or equivalent work experience
3 years of professional work experience in Human Resources, highly preferred
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, preferred
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to create and implement sourcing strategies for recruitment for a variety of roles.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Proficient with ADP’s Recruitment Applicant Tracking System or ability to learn quickly.
Proficient with Microsoft Suite or related software.
Familiar with laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to employment law.
