Description
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology.
Demonstrates responsibility and capability to organize, prioritize, and complete daily assignment on time.
Remains calm and functions proficiently during stressful and/or emergency situations.
Prints additional paperwork needed for the day including, but not limited to; ESWL, Uronav, breast procedures.
5.Complete and log information on prior days surgical procedures into the computer. Ensures that all records from the previous day are accounted for.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Reports daily, weekly, and monthly statistics as well as various reports to the surgical services administrator
Prepares preference cards for next day cases for supply gathering and ensures the completion for scheduled cases as well as emergent and add- on cases
Prepares the current days schedules to include updates, cancellations and emergencies for AM huddle.
10.Completes case cart schedule for CPD, ensuring their availability in the AM.
Places work orders to engineering and biomedical for any physical or equipment issues that may arise
Complete the call schedule for the evening, night, and/or weekend shifts and sends to nursing administration
Assists materials coordinator in accurately reviewing and closing the previous days cases to ensure proper documentation of implants, supplies, and factual statistics in EHR to be sent to coders for billing.
Maintains compliance regulations for the OR, anesthesia, and medical staff by ensuring x-ray badges are updated monthly and all staff have a badge available.
*15. Ensures that the control desk is free of excess personnel and the noise level is appropriate.
Greets in-house holding patients to the OR, provides warm blankets, communicates and comforts patients awaiting surgery.
Facilitates and manages the daily surgical schedules and has working knowledge of an operating room and familiarity with surgical procedures.
Is highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Is able to identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently
Is proficient in the use of EHR
Ensure that the OR is ready for procedures while acting as a liaison for SDS, patients, families, OR staff, and anesthesia
Picks up departmental mail from mail room weekly
Monitors staff and sales representatives leaving department ensuring the removal of masks, hats, and shoe covers
Monitors sales representatives for presence of VendorMate badge and donning of red surgical hat
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Call the nursing units and inform them of time patient is scheduled to be sent for. Inform the OR staff when the patient has arrived in the department.
Alert staff when surgeon has arrived.
Answers and places telephone calls, relaying messages and information accurately. Solves or refers inquiries.
- Relieves schedulers for breaks, vacation and holiday time.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Adheres to Griffin Hospital objective for use of sick time not to exceed the hospital norm of five occurrences per year.
Consistently demonstrates those qualities as stated in the employee philosophy and supports the Griffin patient centered philosophy.
Provides proper notification for sickness, absence and tardiness.
Reports to work on time.

Observes hospital dress code and wears identification badge on upper torso at all times.
Checks communication system for individual and/or organizational messages daily.

INITIATIVE:
Attends six OR staff meetings yearly.
Attends all mandatory inservices.
Adheres to policy for providing patient confidentiality.
Performs all other duties / projects as assigned.
On a yearly basis develops personal goals and objective with target dates and implements activities to achieve goals.
Annually attends 4 hours of staff development, continuing education, and/or inservice programs. (Excluding mandatories)
Assumes responsibility for reading and understanding memos, minutes, etc. in communication book.
- Maintains individual record of education; i.e., in-service, mandatory programs, continuing education, etc.
