Description of Job
Position Summary:
The Colorado Department of Education is searching for a dynamic leader supporting a high functioning team of professionals assisting the field with standards implementation and instructional support. The Director oversees several content areas, grant programs, and legislated initiatives. The person filling this role will need to be a forward thinker with strong management skills and can problem solve with nimbleness in an evolving field.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Provide leadership and support to Colorado teachers and school and district leaders for the Colorado standards implementation initiative.
B. Supervise, hire, evaluate, and approve accounting and payroll actions for members of the Office of Standards and Instructional Support.
C. Lead the CDE standards and instructional support team to support school districts with standards implementation, tool development, instructional, and assessment support
D. Lead the standards review and revision process.
E. Collaborate with leaders of CDE initiatives related to assessments, educator effectiveness, and accountability and support to build capacity for implementation of Colorado’s education reform agenda.
F. Support development and dissemination of curriculum and instructional supports in alignment with the Colorado Academic Standards and research based instructional practice.
G. Maintain and further enhance the standards and instructional support web pages with regular communication about resources and available technical assistance.
H. Communicate with national organizations to gather state of the art information relative to implementation of standards and advancing academic achievement for students.
I. Identify and disseminate research-proven instructional practice.
J. Facilitate research-based professional development to build the capacity of schools and districts to support student attainment of the Colorado Academic and English Language Proficiency Standards.
K. Provide state leadership connecting assessment to standards and instruction.
L. Work collaboratively with CDE partners on common projects.
M. Provide leadership for high-impact tutoring, expanded learning opportunities, media literacy, and personal financial literacy.
N. Provide leadership for Improving Mathematics Outcomes based on requirements from legislation.
O. Support the administration of competitive grants and completion of legislative reports assigned to the Office of Standards and Instructional Support.
P. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
MINIMUMEDUCATION ANDEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 7 years doing similar work as described or Masters Degree
Understands various educational technology and project management environments.
Strong communication skills, written and oral.
Understands the Colorado Academic Standards.
Understands interventions and assessment.
Supervisory and management experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Post-graduate degree, Ph.D. or Ed.D.
State or District-level experience.
Curriculum and instruction background.
Conditions of Employment (Required):

Ability and willingness to independently determine, obtain means, and complete required travel (20 %)
