ABOUT THE UNIT
The Data Services Team delivers data-driven insights through visualizations, analytical reports, and technological innovation to support Office of the Attorney General (OAG) priorities. Work performed by the unit enhances administration, case strategy, investigations, education, outreach efforts, and policy initiatives, ensures data-informed decision-making that aligns with the Department of Law’s (DOL) mission.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Data Analyst supports the Department of Law (DOL) in a wide range of data-driven projects that advance the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) priorities, administration, case strategy, investigations, education, outreach, and policy initiatives. Collaborating with the lead data analyst, this role contributes to technical tool development, data management, project coordination, data validation, analysis, technical writing, and professional report creation. The Data Analyst plays a critical role in quality assurance reviews, data oversight, and report generation, ensuring accuracy and reliability in all deliverables. Working both independently and collaboratively, this position develops tools to meet project objectives, supports complex initiatives, trains staff, maintains products, and drives process improvements. Additionally, the Data Analyst manages assigned projects, tracks progress toward key milestones and facilitates change management to ensure success in projects. This position uses expert level judgement to identify trends, make decisions, and identify priorities, which influence policies, guidelines, and management decisions pertaining to team operations and future directions.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Essential job duties include but are not limited to the following:
Data Analysis
Conduct in-depth data analyses, including spatial analysis, to uncover patterns and insights
Clean, validate, and transform data, ensuring accuracy by addressing missing values, duplicate entries, and inconsistencies
Identify patterns, spatial trends, and relationships to generate actionable insights
Utilize programmatic approaches for data analysis workflows
Develop project management documentation outlining request details, timelines, product development, workflows, calculations, and procedural steps to ensure clear execution of data analysis objectives
Reporting and Data Visualization
Design and develop data visualizations and written reports (charts, graphs, maps, dashboards, and interactive mapping applications) to support various DOL programs
Determine the best methods and tools for presenting information, updating existing data models, and generating periodic reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) highlighting key performance indicators, trends, and insights
Analyze and determine what information should be presented to ensure relevant and impactful reporting
Summarize data for complaint reviews, investigations, litigation, education, outreach, and annual reports
Ensure reports are clear, effective, and aligned with program priorities, using best practices in data visualization
Data Management and Product Maintenance
Collaborate with the Lead Data Analyst to manage data processes that impact project and team functions
Organize, update, maintain, and document data across various platforms
Ensure project contents, data, and deliverables are accurate, organized, and accessible for Data Services team members and stakeholders
Develop best practices, guidelines, and procedures for data collection, cleaning, and aggregation methods
Support quality assurance and data validation efforts, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
Identify and mitigate new and emerging challenges that impact project deliverables
Partner with internal stakeholders to assess data requirements for reporting and project needs
Assist in training initiatives to enhance data management and product maintenance capabilities
Process Improvement and Change Management
Lead Data Services Team process improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive efficiency and optimize workflows
Ensure effective adoption of new processes that improve data quality, reporting, and team productivity
Use data insights to guide decision-making, evaluate the impact of proposed changes, and provide strategic recommendations
Facilitate change management through stakeholder engagement, training initiatives, and education programs
Develop key performance metrics to track and measure the effectiveness of process improvements and change adoption

- OR -A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, business analytics, information systems, spatial data science or a field of study related to the assignment AND two (2) years of professional experience in data wrangling, processing, and analysis, with a proven ability to present results through technical reports, visualizations, or other data-driven products as main function of the job. Experience must include data collection, cleansing , analysis, interpretation , and reporting.

A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, business analytics, information systems, spatial data science or a field of study related to the assignment AND one (1) year of professional experience in data wrangling, processing, and analysis, with a proven ability to present results through technical reports, visualizations, or other data-driven products as main function of the job. Experience must include data collection, cleansing , analysis, interpretation , and reporting.

A combination of relevant education and experience that equals 6 years. Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, business analytics, information systems, spatial data science or a field of study related to the to the major duties of this position will be considered and of professional experience in data wrangling, processing, and analysis, with a proven ability to present results through technical reports, visualizations, or other data-driven products as main function of the job. Experience must include data collection, cleansing , analysis, interpretation , and reporting.
