JOB TITLE: Sheepherder

JOB DUTIES: 1. Monitor the health, nutrition, and overall well-being of the sheep. 2. Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as needed. 3. Ensure appropriate feeding and nutrition for the flock. 4. Keep records of sheep health, breeding, and lambing activities. 5. Grazing and Pasture Management: Lead the sheep to appropriate grazing areas and manage their movements. Implement rotational grazing practices to maintain pasture health and sustainability. Monitor forage quality and quantity to optimize sheep nutrition. 6. Flock Safety and Security: Protect the flock from predators, diseases, and adverse weather conditions. Maintain and repair fencing, enclosures, and facilities to ensure the safety of the sheep. Implement predator control strategies to minimize risks to the flock. 7. Lambing and Breeding: Assist with lambing operations and provide care to newborn lambs. Implement breeding programs in coordination with ranch management. Monitor ewes during breeding and lambing seasons to ensure successful outcomes. 8. Equipment and Supplies: Maintain and operate tools, equipment, and vehicles used in sheep management. Manage inventory and order necessary supplies to support sheep care and operations. 9. Environmental Stewardship: Collaborate with ranch management to implement environmentally sustainable practices. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental and agricultural practices. 10. Communication and Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with ranch management and other team members. Collaborate with ranch staff to coordinate activities and achieve operational goals.
Minimum Experience: 1 year experience in livestock herding.
Special Requirements: Drug Screen and Criminal Background check upon hire.
Salary: $36,317.00/ year
