Stetson University Landscape Tech - Crew Leader MT9929 in DeLand, Florida
Under the director supervision of the Grounds Manager, the Landscape Technician/Crew Leader serves as a crew leader providing daily direction and supervision of assigned staff while adhering to all industry safety standards. This position a lso performs semi-skilled manual labor, using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment. This role may require operation of utility vehicles, trailers, light trucks, dump trucks, tractors, chainsaws, power tools, and mowers. Routine tasks are performed under general supervision with considerable independence but are subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion. Performs other work as requested by the Grounds Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties will include, but not be limited to:
Coordinate the maintenance of all the University’s grounds and paved surfaces as directed by the Grounds Manager
Operate edgers, clippers, and other hand and power tools used in grounds maintenance
Inspect and maintain equipment and machines following a preventative maintenance program
Lay sod; water grounds; rake; pick up paper and other debris from assigned areas; install landscaping and repair roads
Operate riding mowers, tractors, light motor vehicles, utility vehicles, dump trucks, and trailers
Mow grass, cuts weeds, edges, and trims; prune, spray, and mulch trees, shrubs, and lawns as requested by Grounds Supervisor
Abide by, and comply with, all University policies and procedures
Perform other site and position specific duties as assigned
Required Skills
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the turf maintenance industry
Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices
Ability to perform strenuous physical work in adverse environmental conditions
Skill in the operation of hand and power tools
Skill in the operation of light motor vehicle
Required Experience
High school diploma or GED
Five (5) years of experience in landscaping and grounds work
Must be proficient with all phases of industry standards and procedures as to the installation of irrigation and safety standards
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
