Robert Half Payroll Tax Specialist in Decatur, Alabama

Description

We are offering a temporary to permanent employment opportunity for a Payroll Tax Specialist in the environmental industry, located in Decatur, Alabama. As a Payroll Tax Specialist, your main tasks will revolve around maintaining precise records of payroll tax payments, ensuring compliance with tax laws, overseeing payroll systems, and resolving any tax discrepancies.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately oversee the withholding of payroll taxes from employee wages in adherence to federal, state, and local tax laws as well as additional deductions or exemptions

• Manage the contributions made by the employer towards payroll taxes including the employer's part of Social Security and Medicare taxes

• Ensure the timely filing of tax forms and returns associated with payroll taxes, which includes Form 941, and state and local tax returns via the current payroll provider

• Keep up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations to maintain compliance with all payroll tax requirements

• Maintain precise records of payroll tax payments, filings, and other relevant documentation

• Address and resolve any issues or discrepancies related to payroll taxes, including responding to inquiries from tax authorities and addressing employee concerns

• Provide support during payroll tax audits by providing required documentation and answering queries from auditors

• Oversee payroll systems and software to ensure accurate calculation and reporting of payroll taxes

• Complete year-end processes via payroll provider, which includes W2 preparation

• Oversee the wage attachment process, which includes UKG entry, vendor/payee follow-up, and employee outreach.

Requirements • Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems is essential

• Experience with 401k - RRSP Administration is required

• Capability to perform various Accounting Functions is necessary

• Knowledge of Accrual Accounting is expected

• Auditing skills are a must

• Proficiency in UKG Pro is desirable

• Familiarity with Kronos software is beneficial

• Experience with Multi-state Payroll is a key requirement

• Understanding of Multi-state Tax is needed

• Expertise in Payroll Taxes is crucial
