Ford Motor Company R&A Chassis Calibration Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

In this position...

Research and development of chassis mechatronic systems focusing on active suspension, steer-by-wire, and electromechanical braking system. Responsibilities include system modeling and calibration for software in loop, hardware in loop, and prototype testing environments.

What you'll do...

  • Research and development of chassis mechatronic systems including modeling, supplier interaction and prototype testing for steering, braking, suspension etc.

  • Translate customer and corporate needs and requirements to system, component and software requirements and specifications

  • Use CAE, SIL, HIL, RCP for design and testing of new steering and braking functions plus features for future chassis mechatronic actuators (steering, suspension & brakes)

  • Test vehicle mechanical and electrical maintenance and modification.

  • Definition of controls software performance targets and validation plans.

  • Documentation and presentation of project results including preparation of recommendations and decisions to be taken by the management team

  • Identification and proposal of new research areas and projects in R&A Chassis, addressing market trends, software/controls methods developments, sensor developments, and information gathered at congresses, seminars and technical publications

  • Communication with suppliers to identify new chassis technologies

  • Vehicle attribute & performance assessment to assess functional performance of controls algorithms

You'll Have…

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engieneering, Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 3+ years of experience in Chassis / Chassis Controls Engineering with focus on controls programming

  • 3+ years of experience in controls software development in MATLAB, Simulink, dSpace or equivalent

Even better, you may have…

  • Master of Science in Electrical, Controls, Mechanical or other Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in Chassis Engineering & Advanced Technology development

  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink for algorithm development

  • Experience with dSpace, Vector and BTC software products

  • 1+ year of experience in vehicle tuning on control system algorithms

  • Prefer Vehicle network (CAN and CANalyzer/CANape) experience

  • Experience with vehicle simulation software (ADAMS/CarSim)

  • System Engineering, FMEA, Robustness, Reliability experience

  • Experience with Ford GPDS and GTDS processes

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Ability to multi-task on multiple projects and work with a global team in different countries and time zones.

  • Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and conflict management skills

  • Experience at developing an advanced technology project and getting it into serial production
