The Resettlement Support Center Asia (RSC Asia), funded by the US State Department Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), assists persons throughout Asia seeking permanent resettlement in the United States. Responsible for a portfolio of 37 countries, RSC Asia: prepares refugee applications for the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) using START (a State Department–managed data system that supports the arrival and resettlement of refugees through technology); provides information to resettlement agencies about arriving refugees and offers cultural orientation training to refugees bound for the United States.

Purpose of the Role

The Senior Childminding Officer will supervise childminders in their care for a group of young children while their parents attend interviews arranged by Resettlement Support Center (RSC) Asia (Bangladesh) and will be contacted in case the Childminder needs support. They will communicate with RSC Asia (Bangladesh) program staff and the parents of children to ensure the safety and well-being of the children and encourage play-based learning.

Highlights of Key Responsibilities

  • The Senior Childminding Officer’s main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage incentive workers hired for childminders including but not limited to scheduling, time sheets, training, and supervision to ensure proper care and supervision of young children (0-8 years old).

  • Supervise and monitor the safety of children according to IRC policy and Bangladesh law.

  • Ensure all children always remain in the care of the childminders for the duration of the parent’s scheduled appointment.

  • Conduct play-based learning activities with children. Plan and organize age-appropriate activities and play experiences that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

  • Communicate with parents about the needs of their children at drop-off, pick-up, and as needed.

  • Help children keep good hygiene, change diapers of infants and toddlers as needed.

  • Communicate with RSC Asia (Bangladesh) staff to ensure key safety protocols and Childminders guidelines are always followed.

  • Contact emergency services as needed. Handle any emergencies or incidents that may occur during childminding hours according to RSC and IRC policy.

  • Create and maintain daily sign-in sheets, including child name and parent or guardian name.

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and notable observations regarding children's well-being and development.

  • Adhere to all relevant regulations, policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.

  • Manage childcare inventory, assess needs, request supplies on time, organize storage, maintain accurate records, and ensure enough items are available for daily operations.

  • Maintain cleanliness, and hygiene, establish regular cleaning schedules, use child-safe cleaning products, and incorporate colorful, engaging decorations.

    Qualifications

    Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Psychology or a related field is preferred.

    Work Experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience

  • Previous work in a multi-cultural environment is preferred

  • Experience caring for young children, especially those between one and five years old required.

  • Educational background or formal work experience in early childhood education and child protection preferred

  • Experience with supervision and staff management.

  • English proficiency required, Rohingya language desirable.

  • First Aid certification

  • Love for children.

  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and the ability to supervise and support a team of childminders.

  • Previous experience working with children who have experienced complex trauma.

  • Working experience in foster care agency, childcare setting, babysitting, learning center or similar setting.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with children to support their growth and development.

  • Passion for working with children and a commitment to providing them with a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment in which to learn and grow.
