Job Summary
The Department of Applied Economics, College of Agricultural Sciences, invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
We are seeking a microeconomist to conduct research on climate change solutions related to agriculture or natural resources, including adaptation or mitigation that sustains the economic value of natural capital. Possible focus areas include but are not limited to the economics of renewable energy development, management of landscapes prone to wildfire, and sustainable management of water resources.
The successful candidate will teach three 10-week quarter classes per year in the undergraduate or graduate programs of the Department of Applied Economics. Undergraduate courses will serve the department’s Environmental Economics and Policy major or the Agricultural and Food Business Management major. Graduate courses may include microeconomic theory, applied econometrics, or field courses consistent with the person’s expertise and the needs of the department.

To support a research program and graduate students, the person in this position will be expected to apply and compete for external grants and contracts, such as those from federal agencies like the U.S. Department of Agriculture ( USDA ), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ( NOAA ), or the National Science Foundation ( NSF ). The person will have the opportunity to collaborate with College of Agricultural Sciences ( CAS ) researchers from other departments on interdisciplinary grant proposals and research.

Key Responsibilities
50% Research and scholarly activities
The faculty member will conduct research on climate change solutions related to agriculture or natural resources, including adaptation or mitigation that sustains the economic value of natural capital. Possible areas of focus include the economics of renewable energy development, management of landscapes prone to wildfire, or sustainable management of water resources.
Scholarship must be based on a high level of professional expertise, must give evidence of originality, must be documented and validated through peer-reviewed journal articles, and must be communicated in appropriate ways so as to have impact and significance beyond the University. Activities include but are not limited to obtaining competitive grants and contracts, peer reviewed publication of scientific research, development of scientific technologies and methods, and integration of knowledge leading to new inferences.
This position has an Agricultural Experiment Station ( AES ) appointment and the faculty member will serve as an investigator on a USDA - NIFA Hatch collaborative or Hatch multistate project.
Faculty member will maintain an externally funded research program that adheres to OSU’s requirements for research integrity, compliance, and safety.
Faculty member will mentor graduate students who contribute to research accomplishments.
45% Teaching and advising
The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities for three quarter system (10 week) courses per year. The courses are a mix of undergraduate and graduate courses. The faculty member will periodically update course materials, develop Ecampus courses, and participate in curriculum development and assessment activities as needed by the department.
Responsibilities may include coordination of experiential learning opportunities such as internships, research opportunities, hands-on project team development, and working with stakeholders.
Faculty member will serve on committees of graduate students for whom they are not serving as a major professor.
Faculty member will serve as faculty advisor of student clubs.
Faculty member will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, including efforts promoting equitable outcomes among learners of diverse and underrepresented identity groups.
5% Service
Faculty are expected to be collegial members of their units, and to perform appropriate service that contributes to the effectiveness, diversity, and inclusiveness of their departments, colleges, the University, and their professions. University service includes serving the University-wide community of faculty and development of community resources. Professional service includes but is not limited to reviewing manuscripts for journals and proposals for national funding agencies and involvement in professional organizations. Ph.D. in applied economics, economics, agricultural economics, or related discipline by date of appointment.

Relevance of research to issues facing Oregon and the broader Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
Potential to teach undergraduate courses on policy and law with respect to agriculture or the environment, in addition to other subjects in applied economics.
Demonstrated experience in or preparation for effective teaching in multiple modalities, including in person, online, and hybrid.
Evidence of exemplary communication skills.
Potential for interdisciplinary research collaborations or experience working with other professionals in and outside of academic institutions.
Strong potential securing extramural funded research.
Life experience, education, or training that broadens capacity to make student success equitable or positively impact underrepresented or underserved communities.
