Guthrie Patient Care Coordinator Oncology-Guthrie Cancer Center-Full Time in Corning, New York
Position Summary:
Performs all duties of the receptionist and additionally assists the CTS staff in the coordination of patient care services, including the efficient queuing of patients for treatments and assisting the Office manager in processing daily, weekly and monthly billing. Promptly responds to phone calls and other patient or professional staff requests.
Experience:
Graduate of business program, with medical assistance training or a graduate of a medical assisting program preferred, previous specific experience can be considered. Excellent organizational ability. Excellent computer skills. Excellent phone skills and manners. Pleasant out‐going personality. Medical terminology course work is required. ICD‐9 Coding experience preferred.
Essential Functions:
Pleasantly and professionally greet patients and their families whether the first visit or subsequent appointments.
May be responsible for opening or closing of the building and appropriate locking of premises.
Efficiently obtains patient records needed for treatment from other physician’s practices or institutions that have provided care.
Obtains Radiology films or laboratory results and promptly gets them to the requestor.
Keeps the front desk area and waiting area neat and clean.
May type correspondence, labels or policy and procedures.
Coordinates the efficient delivery of patients from the waiting area to the treatment areas.
May be required to direct patient to the changing rooms and assist with clothing changes.
May be required to take pulse, blood pressures and obtain patient’s weights and document accurately following specific training.
May be required to assist patient into the building or rooms and back to their transportation.
Schedules patient appointments in a manner that meets treatment needs and works best for the patient.
Verifies patient information, gets patient consents and inputs it into the Information Systems as needed.
Assists in ensuring that all documentation on a new patient is complete and promptly distributed.
Helps process patient bills with assistance of Director and in absence of Director.
Helps ensure all encounter forms are processed.
May be required to take dictation and type policies, procedures or meeting minutes.
May be required to copy or fax information.
May be required to prepare mailings of materials for either manager or physicians.
Ensures phone system messages are responded to promptly, keeps voice mail messages up to date.
Time and attendance duties when Manager of Cancer Center is away.
Prints, prepares for review and sends out dictation for the physicians.
Maintains schedule system.
ICD‐10 coding for new consult oncology charts. Sets up consultation appointments for the incoming patients.
Organizes and compiles charts for incoming patients.
Professionally answers phones and promptly and accurately directs the calls.
Prints, copies and handles the billing forms.
Files records and maintains the appropriate storage of records as needed. Opens and efficiently distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
Other Duties:

Exhibits initiative in performing all duties, regularly assists co‐workers, consistently strives to be a productive member of the department and the organization. Consistently demonstrates good judgment, ability to assess situations, consider alternatives, and select appropriate course of action. Consults supervisor as appropriate. Fully supports and utilizes the organization’s Continuous Quality Improvement process ‐ participates in activities as established and agreed to, identifying problems and working toward resolution. Maintains desired attendance level, arrives on time at start of scheduled shift and returns promptly after breaks and lunch periods. Attends annual update and review education session and departmental meetings. Complies with requirement for annual physical assessment within appropriate time‐frame.
The pay ranges from $17.00-$23.49 per hour
