REQUIREMENTS: Five (5) years verifiable experience as a diesel mechanic ASE Certification(s) a plus Past managerial experience, preferred High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized vehicle and equipment repair courses. Knowledgeable of diagnostic equipment for major truck brands (Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star) Excellent communication skills both verbal and written Possession of a valid Commercial Driver s License and DOT physical Able to schedule and set priorities for work to be accomplished timely JOB DUTIES: Manage a team of up to four (4) mechanics Knowledge of tools, procedures, technical skills, and safety rules used in the maintenance and repair of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered equipment. Inventory control of all good in shop stock Order supplies as needed, FIFO system Performs thorough, accurate preventative maintenance inspections. Following schedules completes all required preventative maintenance operations including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation. Must be thoroughly familiar with all safety provisions associated with vehicle maintenance. Understands OSHA standards and provisions. Understands and conforms to State EPA regulations regarding disposal of toxic waste substances. Consulting the customer and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks required Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions Inspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts Repairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated parts Conducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment and brake checks Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles Performs emergency roadside services as needed. Requires operation of either replacement vehicle or utility truck.
