Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to manage multiple sales agencies in a multiple state region (MI, IN, OH, WV, KY TN, AR, LA, and MS) to increase sales through the utility, municipal electric and rural electric co-operative market channel for Acuity Brands Lighting products and services. The Utility Sales Manager will assist in defining the customer sales opportunities in the agent's service territory to build sales, enhance the customer experience, and be able to provide program consultations to those utilities.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Regular meetings with agency sales to set and execute sales strategy in territory; educate agency sales personnel on brand value proposition and product feature/benefits; meet with end users to understand overall utility program; consult with end users and agency sales personnel to define program improvements; understand the regional market influences, competitor's lines and competitors agencies; support multiple ABL sales personnel on ABL product knowledge base for collaborative opportunities; provide and participate in overall agency assessments; support PVS with product modification feedback and gaps in product offerings; responsible for all sales and profitability within defined region, adjusting customer product mix where applicable; provide customer education concerning legislative updates, seminars, lunch and learns; and oversee field service support for agency request.

  • Serve as the primary utility contact/expert for the region. Drive sales in the region by being a lighting expert, understanding the customer’s needs, and how to sell to fill those needs.

  • Utilize ABS tools to increase sales force effectiveness and improve bottom line sales.

  • Utilize basic Microsoft business software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, to analyze business data and report effectively within a matrix organization.

  • Effectively communicate and work collaboratively in a matrix organization.

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3 years previous lighting sales experience or 3 years experience with previous utility/C&I agency sales management.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree plus 5 years utility sales in lighting and/or agency sales management experience.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., efficiently identify and handle objects, and stand for extended periods of time.

Travel Requirements

Must be willing to travel within region a minimum of 50% of the time, including overnight travel.

The range for this position is $74,700.00 to $167,900.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
