Serco Linux Systems Engineer - (100% Remote) in Colorado

Position Description

Serco Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and Experienced Linux Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team – (100% Remote) . This role will be pivotal in supporting our cutting-edge technologies, including Sapiens, AI, and robotic systems, within an AWS-native environment.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Linux systems administration, with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8. Additionally, proficiency in managing containerized applications, particularly in OpenShift and Elastic Container Service (ECS) environments, is essential.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and optimization of our infrastructure while actively participating in the transition from OpenShift to ECS, leveraging GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

This position requires flexible working hours; you must be willing to be on-call, work evenings, and/or weekends as needed for troubleshooting or implement changes

In this role you will:

  • Systems Administration: Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux-based systems within an AWS environment, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.

  • Infrastructure Management: Design, implement, and manage infrastructure solutions to support Sapiens, AI, robotic systems, and other critical applications.

  • Container Orchestration: Manage containerized applications using OpenShift and facilitate the transition to Elastic Container Service (ECS), ensuring seamless integration and efficient operation.

  • Version Control and CI/CD: Utilize GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines, automating software delivery and deployment processes.

  • Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline system provisioning, configuration, and deployment processes.

  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Implement robust monitoring solutions to proactively identify and address performance issues. Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex system problems as they arise.

  • Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security best practices across all systems and applications. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify areas for improvement in processes, systems, and infrastructure. Lead initiatives to implement enhancements and optimize performance.

  • Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects and initiatives. Share expertise and best practices with team members to foster continuous learning and improvement.

  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for all systems, configurations, and procedures to support knowledge transfer and facilitate efficient operation.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • United States Citizenship/Green Card required

  • This position requires flexible working hours; you must be willing to be on-call and work evening and weekends as needed for troubleshooting or implement changes

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • Or a High School Diploma with 9 years of experience in Linux systems administration, with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 in lieu of degree

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Linux systems administration, with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8

  • Strong proficiency in managing containerized applications using OpenShift, including deployment, scaling, and troubleshooting

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, and CloudFormation

  • Familiarity with container orchestration platforms, such as Elastic Container Service (ECS) and Kubernetes

  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security principles

  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)

  • Proficiency in GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator)

  • Experience working with artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic systems

  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and principles, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC)

  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Agile Scrum)

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $83,365.11 to $138,941.85; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
