Hiring Range: $46,200.00 - $49,200.00 annually (salary to be commensurate with qualifications)

This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm or Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 4:30pm, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Under the direction of the District Supervisor, performs skilled labor tasks to include operating medium to heavy machinery in the maintenance, repair, and construction of park grounds and facilities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled labor in any or all of the areas of grounds maintenance, facility or equipment maintenance, and construction, including turf and irrigation maintenance, horticulture activities, major and minor construction, and facility cleaning.

  • Operates a variety of equipment and vehicles, including medium and heavy trucks such as motor graders, dump trucks, backhoes, skid-steers, trenchers, rollers, and attachments. Performs daily and routine equipment maintenance and record keeping as per manufacturer and County Fleet specifications; safely transports equipment in compliance with all governing jurisdictions to and from assigned projects.

  • Performs labor tasks required in the maintenance of park grounds facilities, including the use and operation of specialized vehicles, equipment, and power tools as needed for assigned maintenance and improvement projects such as carpentry, concrete, utility, and irrigation work. Develops and maintains percent of grade and drainage specifications as applied to civil construction projects.

  • Assists in reviewing department construction plans for feasibility and potential errors or problems prior to construction as directed.

  • Trains and coordinates the activities of staff and/or volunteers performing related work as directed; completes weekly safety check lists and work orders.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general construction practices and methods, building codes and installation, and repair and maintenance of plumbing, electrical, and irrigation systems.

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of park areas and facilities.

  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, painting, and maintenance techniques and procedures.

  • Knowledge of horticulture and landscape maintenance techniques, sprinkler systems, and related equipment.

  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments in a timely, safe, and proper manner.

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with County staff and the general public.

  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work in all types of weather.

  • Ability to safely operate and maintain medium and heavy equipment.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.

  • Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.

  • Any equivalent combination of related education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Ability to obtain a Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment; tanker endorsement preferred.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Work Conditions

Duties are performed both indoors and outside in the field in various weather conditions. Requires physical effort to perform frequent lifting, bending, and climbing. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to fifty (50) lbs. on an occasional basis. Physical hazards may be present when mixing or working with chemicals, power tools, and motorized equipment. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
