County of Hamilton Maintenance Worker II in Cincinnati, Ohio

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office,(HCSO) founded in 1803 is the 3rd largest sheriff's office in Ohio. We are looking to hire a *Maintenance Worker II. *This person is responsible for performing general maintenance activities such as general repair, replacing filters, preventative maintenance, painting, plastering, cleaning, mopping, waxing floors, and moving furniture. Performs various skilled tasks (e.g. carpentry, wiring, glazing, and welding).

  • This person may travel to various Sheriff's Office buildings to perform assigned carpentry or maintenance tasks, operate trucks or other vehicles to pick up and deliver parts, supplies, materials, or refuse; load and unload materials to and from vehicles;
  • This position will work on projects in an office and/or jail environment. They may perform as working supervisor of assigned inmate work crews for buildings and grounds of Sheriff's Office facilities; ensuring proper safety and security standards and methods are maintained.
  • Orders/dispenses tools and supplies, maintains an inventory of tools and supplies; monitors expenditures of items purchased; maintains records. Cleans work area; oils and cleans equipment, sharpens tools, performs duties of co-workers as required or assigned, attends training sessions as required, may perform other duties as required.
  • Performs as working supervisor of assigned inmate work crews for buildings and grounds of the Sheriff's Office facilities; delegates and ensures proper safety and security standards and methods are maintained; reports problems and progress to supervisors; determines proper work methods and procedures within defined work guidelines.

ABILITY TO: perform moderate to heavy physical labor (e.g. prolonged standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, lift up to 50 lbs. without a material handling device, use and wear personal protective equipment; communicate effectively; develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, inmates and the general public; recognize unusual or threatening conditions; instruct others; demonstrate physical strength; understand systems of mechanical repairs/procedures; diagnose malfunctions and determine corrective measures; calculate fractions/decimals and percentages; prepare/maintain accurate documentation.

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years maintenance experience
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, welding and electrical systems
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools
  • Ability to read technical manuals and drawings
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical stamina and dexterity - Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, push/pull for extended periods. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
