Saint-Gobain Valley Industry Partnership (VIP) Engineering Intern in CHOWCHILLA, California
Position Summary
The Engineering Intern works with the Chowchilla Engineering team to direct & coordinate, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of projects within their area of assigned responsibility. This position is responsible for executing process improvements and projects to reduce unscheduled downtime, increase asset life and enhance processed to improve safety, quality, & plant performance. The managing of these projects should ensure that the work adheres to all company safety policies and OSHA mandated requirements. Interaction with external vendors, plant stakeholders, and corporate teams will be essential. This position reports to the Engineering Manager at the Chowchilla facility.

Essential Duties
Manage or assist in managing projects within the facility or cross functionally in other teams as needed.
Support the facility capital budget plan to help meet business commitments.
Work on developing SOWs, SOPs, RFQs, coordinate bids, and recommend vendors.
Identifies, supports, or directs the execution of improvement efforts to reduce waste in all manufacturing or business processes.
Applies DMAIC – Six Sigma approaches to solve issues and reduce process variation and deviation.
Contribute significantly to manufacturing improvement team activities utilizing continuous improvement methodologies.
Documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training staff to perform processes correctly and safely.
Develop start-up procedures and standard process monitors to ensure health of the line and identify out-of-control processes. Use a data driven approach to center line and footprint all equipment settings.
Work closely with maintenance on various plant priorities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Member of the Valley Industry Partnership (VIP Program) through Fresno State University
Working towards a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university or institution.
Design using computer aided drafting and design.

Additional Requirements
Interpersonal skills sufficiently developed to interact with plant personnel, other plants, suppliers, and contractors to find and implement solutions to problems. Have the ability to instruct and get work done through vendors and plant maintenance.
Ability to work on occasional days of 12+ hours during down days or during a project startup.
Occasional travel to vendors, other plants, seminars, trainings and equipment exhibitions.
Ability to function alone and in a team-based environment.
Ability to work well under pressure.
