FirstService Residential Senior Client Accounting Manager in CHICAGO, Illinois
Job Overview:
As a Senior Manager of Client Accounting, you’ll be responsible for overseeing our downtown Chicago Client Accounting department; ensuring the accuracy of monthly financials, overseeing department processes and procedures, resolving problems, and conducting special projects and analyses. This is a hands-on role responsible for general ledger and financial reporting functions, including but not limited to, month-end close, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement production.
This is a hybrid opportunity based out of our downtown corporate office in Chicago, Illinois. Occasional travel to our suburban corporate office in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, may be required.
Your Responsibilities:
Oversee the production of the financial records of the Associations for FirstService Residential.
Supervise a hybrid team of accounting professionals; motivate team members, set expectations, measure results, and provide timely feedback. Provide coaching and training to direct reports.
Define and enforce key controls over financial statements and financial operations
Oversee the operations of the corporate accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
Produce financial reporting in accordance with company timelines and policies
Supervise and approve key monthly accounting activities such as financial statement production, revenue recognition and journal entry preparation
Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures, including but not limited to, monthly close accountabilities, balance sheet account reconciliations, and financial controls
Enforce monthly close accountabilities and procedures, and maintaining appropriate checklists to ensure departmental compliance. Implement new company procedures and policy changes as needed
Complete balance sheet account reconciliations on a pre-established calendar schedule and in accordance with company policies
Oversee the department's execution of detailed financial controls; enforcing processes and controls to ensure transactions are processed timely and accurately
Execute recurring financial reporting, commentary and analysis
Manage recurring diagnostics and variance reporting
Prepare necessary narrative summaries and related presentations for company and department leadership
Identify and execute opportunities to re-engineer and improve accounting and financial reporting processes
Provide ad hoc analyses and accounting/financial support to business segment management teams in support of financial and operational objectives
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or equivalent education.
8 to 10 years’ progressive experience as an assistant controller or accounting manager and 5 years’ experience supervising teams, or equivalent experience.
Works effectively with coworkers, clients, customers, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; addresses problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions.
GAAP or fund accounting experience required. Experience with Yardi, JenArk, or Tops software strongly preferred.
Must possess a growth mindset and an ability to multi-task/prioritize different projects at any given time.
Superior oral and written communication skills.

Compensation
$ 105000 - $ 115000 / year
