Summary : The senior MySQL developer role is pivotal in managing and optimizing our MySQL and Amazon Aurora databases within our AWS cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have expertise in using industry-standard tools to enhance database performance, security, and scalability.

Assists with business discovery and works from written specifications and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Maintains accurate documentation of solutions provided.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Database Development and Optimization: Design and develop robust databases using MySQL and Amazon Aurora. Implement changes and enhancements using tools like MySQL Workbench and AWS Management Console.

  • SQL Scripting and Automation: Write advanced SQL scripts for routine database operations and use automation tools like AWS Lambda for task automation.

  • Performance Tuning: Utilize Amazon Performance Insights, MySQL Enterprise Monitor, and other performance tuning tools to analyze and enhance database performance.

  • Security Management: Implement security measures using AWS IAM, Amazon VPC, and MySQL security plugins. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

  • Cloud Database Management: Leverage AWS services including RDS for MySQL and Aurora, EC2, S3, and CloudWatch to ensure optimal operation and monitoring.

  • Troubleshooting and Technical Support: Diagnose and resolve database issues with tools like Percona Toolkit and Toad for MySQL.

  • Documentation and Compliance: Document all database procedures and configurations using collaboration tools like Confluence and ensure they meet industry standards and best practices.

    RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS

  • Reports directly to the Manager, Application Development.

  • Works with employees at all levels of the organization.

    EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

    EXPERIENCE:

    A Minimum of 7 years of IT senior MySQL/AWS Aurora Database Developer to join our technology team.

    TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE and/or ABILITIES:

    Successful candidates will likely have at least 7 years of experience in a professional capacity with the following technologies:

    • Proven experience with MySQL and Amazon Aurora in a production environment.
  • Proficient with database administration tools such as MySQL Workbench, AWS Management Console.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with database performance tools like MySQL Enterprise Monitor and Amazon RDS Performance Insights.

  • Experience with AWS cloud services, including but not limited to RDS, EC2, IAM, and S3.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills.

    Preferred skills:

    • AWS Certified Database - Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Experience with database automation tools, such as AWS Lambda and scripting languages like Python or Bash.

  • Knowledge of additional database technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server) and familiarity with DevOps tools like Jenkins, Git, and Ansible.

  • Ability to work through complex issues and identify required interventions.

  • General understanding of business strategies.

  • Proven ability for effective problem analysis and problem resolution at both strategic and functional level.

  • Person must have leadership ability, excellent interpersonal skills, consulting skills and the proven ability to develop relationships and influence all levels within the organization and external to the organization with developers, and business users.

  • Demonstrated presentation, oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to comply and enforce compliance of all state and federal regulations, Company standards, and the ASSA ABLOY Code of Conduct.
