University of Virginia Full time Physical Therapist with Neurologic or lymphedema focus in Charlottesville, Virginia
UVA Health Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy Fontaine is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Physical Therapist II to join our outpatient specialty clinic, focusing on neurologic and/or lymphedema rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will bring advanced expertise in treating patients with complex neurologic conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease (PD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke (CVA), and spinal cord injury (SCI). Certification in lymphedema management is highly desirable, allowing for expanded services to patients with these needs.
As a Physical Therapist II, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based care, serve as a mentor to junior staff, and contribute to program development and interdisciplinary care coordination. You will also take an active role in professional growth, quality improvement initiatives, and serve as a primary clinical instructor for students.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations in alignment with professional standards and departmental policies.
Develop and implement individualized, skilled intervention plans tailored to patient needs, utilizing evidence-based practices.
Provide specialized care for patients with neurologic diagnoses, leveraging advanced clinical knowledge to address complex conditions.
Deliver lymphedema-focused therapy (if certified), enhancing outcomes for patients with lymphatic system disorders.
Actively mentor junior physical therapists, including PT I staff, to foster skill development and ensure high-quality patient care.
Serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students, promoting professional development and knowledge transfer.
Participate in program development, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary care planning to optimize patient outcomes.
Conduct in-service training and contribute to the professional growth of team members through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Demonstrate leadership potential by assuming supervisory responsibilities and seeking mentorship to enhance leadership skills.
Identify and address unmet physical therapy needs within the patient population, advocating for enhanced services and interventions.

Qualifications:
Doctorate or Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
Active Physical Therapist license in the state (or eligibility for licensure).
At least 2 years of clinical experience, with a focus on neurologic or lymphedema rehabilitation preferred.
Certification in lymphedema therapy strongly preferred.
Strong commitment to patient-centered care and interdisciplinary teamwork.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and educate peers and students effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending/stooping/traveling. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
