Actalent Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerJob Description

Designs new equipment, machinery, and components to meet or exceed customer specifications and requirements while ensuring manufacturability with internal and/or external capabilities. Determines technical objectives and develops innovative, practical solutions to advance technical engineering problems. Designs and conducts development testing with Test Engineers, analyzes resulting data to interpret results, conducts analysis, and supports Test Engineers in writing analysis and test reports. Capable of drawing conclusions and reconciling differences between predicted and actual results. Provides engineering design, maintenance support, and training to the manufacturing areas and assesses new and existing equipment to optimize efficiency, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Design new equipment, machinery, and components to meet customer specifications and requirements.

  • Ensure manufacturability with internal and external capabilities.

  • Determine technical objectives and develop innovative, practical solutions.

  • Design and conduct development testing with Test Engineers.

  • Analyze resulting data to interpret results and conduct analysis.

  • Support Test Engineers in writing analysis and test reports.

  • Draw conclusions and reconcile differences between predicted and actual results.

  • Provide engineering design, maintenance support, and training to manufacturing areas.

  • Assess new and existing equipment to optimize efficiency, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical design

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Aerospace experience

  • 3D modeling and design experience with NX (open to other 3D software)

  • Gear design experience (custom gears)

  • 5-7 years of experience

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Work Environment

The position is located in Shelby, NC. The business segment designs and manufactures complex motion control components, systems, and subsystems for very specialized defense, commercial aerospace, and general industrial applications. Customers are mainly military and commercial aerospace OEMs looking for mechanical and electro-mechanical actuation solutions for flight controls, door drive systems, and other needs. The work environment is R&D focused, catering to both commercial and defense customers. This role will report to the Mechanical/Test Engineering department.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.28 - $60.09/hr.
