Summary

The Director of Environmental Compliance – Perdue Foods will lead the Foods division’s environmental compliance programs to ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations. Reporting to the Vice President of Environmental, this position will oversee the implementation and management of compliance systems and initiatives, focusing on environmental sustainability and operational efficiency. The role requires close collaboration with facility management, regulatory agencies, and other internal and external stakeholders to maintain the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee environmental compliance programs, ensuring all facilities comply with regulations related to air, water, waste, and hazardous materials.

  • Monitor changes in environmental laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the organization and implementing necessary changes.

  • Maintain division-wide environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Provide training and resources to ensure team members are informed and compliant with environmental policies.

  • Prepare and submit reports required by regulatory agencies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize liabilities.

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and other interactions.

  • Manage and mentor a team of environmental professionals, fostering a culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide strategic direction and support to facility-level environmental teams.

  • Work closely with the Director of Environmental Sustainability to lead efforts to develop and implement environmental sustainability programs, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and resource conservation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability into business operations and strategic goals.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Biology, Chemistry or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the food processing or manufacturing industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and RCRA.

  • Proven experience managing complex environmental compliance programs across multiple facilities.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in environmental compliance software and tools.

Experience Preferred

  • Experience with wastewater systems in the food industry.

  • Experience with environmental sustainability initiatives in the food industry.

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 or other environmental management systems.
