Position Summary:

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for project management and oversight of assigned projects for the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) department. This position will complete projects for both new and existing clients.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Travel safely to various job sites in a company provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports)

  • Complete proof roll observations and undercuts

  • Staff field work

  • Mentor technicians, staff professionals and junior level managers

  • Provide on-site project management to complete field testing

  • Generate reports, recommendations and other documentation needed by clients

  • Conduct site meetings, site estimates, and project recommendations for prospective and current clients

  • Provide on-site project management to complete field testing

  • Create, prepare and update project proposals and technical reports in a timely manner

  • Develop and manage projects with new and existing clients, ensuring profitability

  • Review, update and approve invoices weekly for on-going projects

  • Maintain excellent communication both verbally and electronically with senior management, other project managers, field staff and colleagues

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and integrity

  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies

  • Other tasks as assigned

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record

  • Preferred: 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university

  • Preferred: Engineering Intern (EI/EIT) License and ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) License within 1-2 years or possession of PE License

  • Required: 5 years of Geotechnical/CMT full-time work experience

  • Knowledge or certification in radiation safety

  • Active certifications in ACI Concrete, ICC Special Inspections, OSHA 10-hour, NCDOT/SCDOT Roadway, Earthworks, Concrete

  • Knowledge of geotechnical and construction materials testing methods, ASTM standards, and soil classifications

  • Ability to calculate results from geotechnical/construction materials testing data

  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents

  • Ability to accurately complete field-testing paperwork and detailed figures

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to write technical reports, proposals, business correspondences and/or procedure manuals as needed

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memos

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technology/computer

  • Strong leadership skills and an eye for detail

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Days and hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments

  • Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and potentially repetitive motions

  • Typically, this position involves 50% office work, 50% field work, depending on the week/work

  • Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move/shake up to 40lbs. (soil and/or concrete tests and related apparatus); frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs. (soil and sand samples, and nuclear density equipment); and occasionally move more than 100lbs. (such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete samples)

  • You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day within the Mid-Atlantic region

  • Some weekend, overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required
